He... um... sort of forgot to call the Indiana coaches before he tweeted the commit.

So does that mean he did finally call them and is back committed?

Kind of sounds like he committed to an uncommittable offer, whops.

Bingo. Grades are a big issue in this case.

So at some point in the past, IU offered ... but at some point since then, they've decided grades make him not worth the risk ... Why the hell don't they call the kid and let him know so this crap doesn't happen? ....IF that's what's happening.

I'd guess the coaching staff generally gives out a couple of vibes.  One being "We're interested", the other being a piece of paper outlining the offer.  I'd guess he got the "we're interested" but didn't get the piece of paper.

Let that be a lesson to all you kids out there, always get something in writing.  That gives it a 50/50 chance of being real.

How do you know that didn't happen? Kids tweet false stuff all the time. Heck I think it was last year a kid tweeted that he'd committed to a school he didn't even have an offer from. The schools are prohibited from formally talking about an offer till February so the kid can basically say whatever he wants. IU offered... but just like USF there are major grade concerns so right now they won't accept his commitment. Should his grades improve at the end of the semester then maybe that would change.

I don't know if it didn't happen... That's why the big green up there in my post ... but if they called him and pulled the commit, why did he commit? Sounds like what he did was used the Devil's tool to announce he made a decision but when he called the IU coaches, the offer wasn't still there ..... which is a ******** way of doing things. Wouldn't take but a minute or two for the coach recruiting him to let him know the offer's no longer on the table but may be back if things change for him.

The IU offer is still there... they're just not ready to take his commitment at this time till they can evaluate his grades at the end of the term.

or he just didn't understand that he had stipulations to having a "commitable" offer

Committable, Schlomittable. This process has turned into a giddy, sobbing mess. Like much of what the NCAA rules cover, this process is ill defined and extraordinarily messy. The schools have made up practices to remain in the game. It's all smoke and mirrors thouigh. Nobody really know what happens, to and for recruits. Schools can't comment, kids make stuff up and most programs are congenital liars. The SI piece on OKSU is amazing and also expected. The sport of CFB is a train wreck right now. Just ask Johnny Football.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
