His previous salary, after a huge raise last year doubling his salary, was $475k/year.

The salary does not make sense to me... if he was making about $500K a year at WKU, then why did we go and offer him $1.5 million? That is only $500K from what we were paying Skip when we hired him.

I think we over paid.

I would think it would depend on if he had other offers and if WKU was offering an increase in his current salary

If more than one program was after him, it would explain the salary.

Or USF did not have anyone else besides Nutt on their radar... its hard to go into salary negotiations with someone and you use Nutt as your leverage.

Now if Doug and Judy had done their jobs and interviewed Petrino and Davis then we might have had the leverage to pay him the correct salary.

He's making $1.15 per year. Very reasonable.

Good deal on the contract a win-win most likely. If he wins, that is.

But the contract makes him a millionaire and he can double that with two good seasons.

USF is also paying his $500k buyout from WKU. Assistant coaches pool remains the same as it was under Holtz.

its a good deal for a 4th year coach. if he puts up good numbers in the first 2 seasons he will get large pay bump.

GA

"As with Skip Holtz deal, if USF were to fire new coach Willie Taggart, Bulls would owe him $400,000 for each year remaining on contract."

"Cool wrinkle in Willie Taggart's new USF contract -- he cannot receive incentive bonuses in a year when annual APR score is below 930."

"So even with Taggart's new contract and Holtz's buyout, USF actually committed to less total money for coaches than would be keeping Holtz."

"As far as USF playing Western Kentucky, there is no contractual obligation for Bulls, though they talked about scheduling games 2 weeks ago"

I got the idea coach was recruiting starting immediately.....he could be doing it right now he was so upbeat about it.

Hope the home-and-home contract comes about. Especially if WKU picks up Leavitt!
