Butch_Davis.jpg

Pros:

Already in town with the Bucs

By the accounts I've heard he recruits well

Good performances at UNC and Miami

Cons:

"Bigger" teams are interested in him (Arkansas, Tenn.)

Probably going to cost us an arm and a leg

Had wins vacated (academic issues? I don't know the full story)

Big NCAA issues at both UNC and UM.

He didn't have NCAA issues at Miami, actually he's given credit for cleaning up that program. He dealt with sanctions, but those sanctions were from the Dennis Erickson era at Miami.

He'd give us the best chance of possibly getting Shannon to come on as DC.

Here's an excerpt from this ESPN article I found from this past July:

Davis is fighting to rebuild his reputation, which was tarnished by the investigation of improper benefits and academic misconduct at UNC.

The only career opportunity currently on the table is working as a "special assistant" toTampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano, a former Davis assistant at Miami. But Davis is ready for the next round of job openings, armed with the NCAA's March ruling that doesn't cite him for wrongdoing.

He'll lose the money UNC is paying him now. From what I understand the Buccaneers were prepared to offer him a spot on the staff, but that would have relieved UNC from their financial obligation. He felt he was wrongly terminated and wanted them to have to continue paying him.

Coach Davis' Employment Agreement calls for the University to immediately pay him $270,417. Before the end of the calendar year 2011, the University will pay Coach Davis (a) an additional $13,083, which is the pro rata share of his retention bonus, plus (an additional $650,000 in supplemental compensation payments. That's a total 2011 payment of $933,500.

The University will owe Coach Davis an additional $590,000 each January 15, starting in 2013 and concluding in 2015.

These amounts would be reduced by any compensation that Coach Davis might earn for coaching in a college or professional program.

um he turned around Miami who was passed down sanctions from the previous coach and at UNC he was cleared by the ncaa and found innocent of everything.

he has no baggage. just a nice resume.
