Those who say a basketball guy like Bilas should run the BE are wrong.

Those who say a football guy is needed at this point for the BE are correct.

Just because Bilas played and analyzes basketball doesn't make him a "basketball guy" as a commissioner. The BE needs a business guy, period.

So are you going on record as Bilas as a business guy over a basketball guy? He is an attorney as well but that doesn't make him a businessman. If he played b-ball and analyzes b-ball ... it sure sounds like a b-ball guy to me, I don't know any other way to describe him, sports wise.

Very curious to hear your response, as I'm not too sure what you were trying to say with your post.

I read that as Bilas is NOT a biz guy, and therefore Stevie doesn't want him...

Sorry, but what even makes Bilas even remotely qualified to be the Big East commish? It sounds like he was an attorney, based on this thread, pre-commentary gig at ESPN. What else?

Sports-wise, yes, he's absolutely a basketball guy. I'm saying that that doesn't mean people can assume he'd come in and neglect football from a business standpoint because he only sees things with basketball goggles. It's false to assume that a basketball background leads to a neglect of football.

For the record I'm not even a proponent of him being the commissioner. I'm just saying we can't make assumptions about his ability as a "football" commissioner because he comments on basketball for a living. As was pointed out in a previous post, Jim Delany played college ball at UNC and got a law degree and he's turned out to be a pretty good "football" commissioner.

The only problem I'd have with Bilas is his current employer .... what better way to put the final nail in the BE coffin than from within.

Why? Just watched the Katz corner episode with Stan and they had Pitino on there. He pretty much just said why he thought he would make a good commish and I agree.

Let's look at a couple of the Current Commisioners

Jim Delaney- Former varsity basketball player at UNC and received his JD. Sounds a bit like Jay Bilas

Mike Slive- Another bball guy. Wouldn't you know, served on the NCAAT committee for 10 years, and was the chair for his final two years. Oh yeah, he's also an attorney.

Bob Bowlsby- Shocker, another bball guy. Served on the NCAAT committee alongside Mike Slive, and was the head back in '06.

So... 3 of the 5 power conferences are lead by BASKETBALL guys. Not Football. The Pac 12 is ran by a former Pro Tennis player, and the ACC is the only major conference ran by a football guy. He was apart of the BCS committee.

I don't necessarily think Jay Bilas is the guy. He's a great mind, a great sports mind, intelligent, and I think could be the right pick. But his lack of experience leading a collegiate athletics program is what turns me away a bit, not the fact that he is a basketball guy.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
