Great optimism from our head coach

USF

Coach Skip Holtz realizes his defense has not played well recently, especially against the pass. Could that mean a big day for Rutgers quarterback Gary Nova?

"If he looks like every other quarterback we've seen, he'll look like an All-American," Holtz quipped. "We're going to have to try and do some things defensively that we haven't done to this point."

You missed the gem of a quote.

The, "If he looks like every other quarterback we've seen, he'll look like an All-American," is the absolutely hilarious part.

Everyone was worried we were going to lose Snyder after this season. I wonder if Snyder is worried that he wont be here next season now?

I was really surprised to read the quotes from Coach Holtz. In fact, I am still holding on that he may have been misquoted or that his statements were taken out of context.

I think he just means that we're going to need to play better on defense, i.e. tackle better, get pressure on the QB, etc. Those are things that we haven't really done too well on and need to improve. Not sure why you're so concerned that he might have been misquoted or taken out of context.

I don't get it. He gets chastised for "making excuses" and then he gets chastised for saying what some of you have been saying since week 5. It seems that some of you will never be happy with anything he says.

We have made every quarterback we face look like an All-American and that quote was a bit sarcastic and summed up his frustration. Our pass rush has been inconsistent and our DBs have been terrible in coverage. It doesn't matter what scheme we use. Everybody has thrown it against us.

And with the level of talent we have lost over the past two years at DB (Raymond, Allen, Murphy) not to mention the pass rushing specialists we had (Selvie, Pierre-Paul) it shouldn't really come as a surprise. Granted I think we are all surprised by the record but it didn't surprise me that the defense took a hit.

Come on? With few exceptions, our recruiting has improved year by year since our inception. We can't use the excuse that we aren't good because too many former players are in the NFL?

Yep. It's a quote I can totally live with.
