Some random thoughts from being at the game.

1. Please, I never want to hear about USF fans not showing up for games.  Their stands were empty and they have 5 national championships in their history.  I hate seeing Ray Jay empty as much as the next guy.  But if UM can't do any better than that (and I don't care if it was a nooner on Thanksgiving weekend), I can't expect USF to do well attendance wise.

2. The Miami fans, overall, were fine.  We heard a few nasty remarks but nothing escalated.  Sometimes you need to keep your mouth shut and keep walking.  Their parking lots are a minefield of broken glass.  Much worse than Ray Jay but that could be due to having some asphalt as opposed to all grass.

3. I thought the stadium was fine.  Seats seem a little more snug than Ray Jay but, then, it is a couple of days after Thanksgiving so maybe it is just me.

4. Funny bit.  The UM fans, on at least 3 occasions, started a "Gators &uck" chant in response to a couple of UF fans in the end zone section near our visitors section.

5. As for football, I'm glad we have Ryne Giddens for another 3 years.

6. Genus on offense and McClain on defense are the rocks that make their respective units go.

7. Eveld, while not perfect by any stretch, just seemed to make quicker decisions.

8. Don't know how many Bulls fans showed up, but it was a nice number and they were really loud at critical times.

9. Murray's run in OT was huge.  Seemed to explode through the hole.

10. Don't understand why the band wasn't there (maybe the holiday weekend?) and our own Faza started numerous chants of U - S - F, U - S - F.  Good job.

I went to the first game in the Orange Bowl and it sucked.. the people were ghetto, the neighborhood was ghetto, and the stadium was ghetto.

as for Joe Robbie, it doesn't help that the stadium is like 45 mins from the campus and where all the kids live.. granted most of the UMiami fans are the local miami people, a good amt is still from the student body, so moving there was the worst they could have done in terms of attendance.

I like your comments on attendance.  I admit I have occasionally complained about USF attendance but once I saw Miami's crowd...I was like wow.  There crowd makes our's look decent. Miami fans are terrible fans.  They have 5 national titles.  I also hear they cant even get people to go to the Miami Heat game with the new big three (James, Wade, and Bosh).  I'm hoping they continue to have extremely bad attendance and be mediocre in football.  All of those things can only help USF.

Add a few to that list of yours..

1. Their Student section SUCKED. That was horrible.

2. Our band wasnt there because UM wanted an extra $20k for them to go. Like they didnt have enough space?

3. Rayjay needs to take note on how Sun Life uses their video screens during games. They show live feed from their cameras on the video screen and they show replays. So if i can't see it in real life, i can look at the screen and get a different angle.

Agreed.  I went to the 2005 game as well and I had to pay some dude 40 bucks to park in his yard with the implicit instructions that my car was not going to get blocked in by other cars.  He held his deal of the bargain, which I guess was worth the extra bucks.

I can still remember sitting in the USF section and seeing all sorts of thuggish dudes throwing up "Da U" sign time and time again.

Great time!  In another thread someone said the actual attendance was 29K.  Absolutely no way there was more than 20K in the house.  And yeah, MAYBE 700 Miami students showed up - it was pretty pathetic, plus I HATE that they mic their band so loud.  HOT would have drowned them out today even with the amplification.

1) Enjoyed that they had full liquor in the stands and quality beer....not just the domestics. Also, cutting off alcohol sales at the Half was interesting but I actually thought it was a good idea.

2) Was the 1st time I really saw Miami as a small Private school. Growing up in the 80's with their Rings....you assume everything there is BIG. Not so. Not many cheerleaders or dancers. Not a big band. Worthlessly small student section.

3) The actual attendance was just north of 26,000 and I would say 5k or so of that was USF fans.....so I don't want to hear anyone complain about our attendance.

4) What was up with the CANES chant before each kickoff.....was I the only one that kept hearing 6 syllables?!? Sounded like they were chanting C-A-N-E-S-A........I asked a UM fan what they were saying and he was like CANES......I am like what is the extra letter for and he didn't seem to understand what I was asking.

5) Thought we had entered another country when the Purple Hippo in the G-String starting shacking it's behind at me on the Jumbotron.  WTF?!?

6) Fans were fine but I think only the die hards were there....nice folks. To bad the rivaly will end in 2013.

SO GLAD WE WON 1 OF THESE.......Now to even up the series next season.

Ricky,  we were tailgating a couple cars over from you guys.  I should've come over and introduced myself.  It seemed like some of the tailgating areas were pretty congested the way they packed everyone in there.  That "Gators Suck" chant to the idiot in the Tebow jersey was pretty funny.

- The big ceiling fans they had in the concourses were awesome ... Kind of like a poor man's club area with all the tv's, tables, etc.

- I will never, EVER say a discouraging word about our PA announcer again!! The UM one has to be the most boring person on the planet. By the end of the first half I was like "Please, Lord, just get this game over with... I don't care who wins!" .... Of course, the play on the field wasn't helping the mood either.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
