could this be the end of the MWC?

Nope. Fresno State and Nevada are going to the Mountain West.

Mountain West was becoming a strong conference. Utah won't play them so they don't know what to do.

they get 8 games against anybody in the country now instead of being forced to play 8 games against crappy conference opponents.

they are no longer forced to play wyoming, new mexico, san diego state, unlv, colorado state.

those 5 alone are just as bad as any wac team and they have to play all 5 every year.

I wish we would do it. I'm tired of playing in the BE. Finances aside, if I knew we would schedule good competition(not necessarily a given considering Woolard's penchant for cupcakes), Id love it. load up with new top 10, top 25, top 40 programs every year instead of the same old boring conference mates.

You're seriously trying to say that the Mountain West is worse than playing 4 WAC teams? TCU, Utah (before they leave for the PAC 12) and adding the best WAC team in Boise State next season is better than anything BYU is going to get as an independent.

You offer up Wyoming, New Mexico, Sand Diego State, UNLV, and Colorado State when BYU could be playing any of these 4 teams in WAC; Louisiana Tech, Idaho, New Mexico State, San Jose State and Utah State.

By the way, the only 2 decent WAC teams left after Boise State are Nevada and Fresno State, and they are joining the Mountain West as well.

USF trying to go independent would be the worst thing possible for the program.

Yes . Having to play 8 MWC is worse than having to play 4 WAC teams. Remember BYU belonged to the WAC for 47 years. They will have all the power. + an away game against their old conference foe Hawaii let's them play 13 in one year.

BYU can now schedule like ND. They can put 8 BCS programs on their schedule as opposed to 4. Pac ten teams will line up to play them in 1 for 1's as BYU brings 15 - 20k fans with them. They already play 1 for 1's with FSU, OU, Washington, UCLA, etc.

The only thing bad about USF going independent would be the lost revenue. Look at the way miami scheduled as an independent. They built their program by playing a tough national schedule. I guarantee we would be in line for recruits like James Wilder if we played a top 5 schedule every year.

Looks like the WAC is the one in trouble.

Bull94,

For BYU or USF to go independent, you either play a lousy schedule or your play no home games.  Not many, "big boys" are going to come to your place to play you especially late in the season.  If it were that easy, BYU has 4 non-conference games available, how come their not playing the, "big boys" now?

This is not the same NCAA as it was when Miami, FSU and others were independent.  The BCS has changed all of that.

Flip,

Imagine as an independent, playing a schedule that consists of different teams every other year from the

2 SEC

2 Big 12

2 ACC

2 Big 10

2 BE

that's exactly how Miami scheduled as an independent. that would be fantastic. much better than playing the same 7 teams every year.

even with miami and UF on our schedule, we won't crack top 50 for SOS this year.

Great recruits want to play against great competition in big games.

While that would be great, as apis said: "This is not the same NCAA as it was when Miami, FSU and others were independent.  The BCS has changed all of that."

Apparently you haven't looked at their schedule. They have plenty of BCS opponents.  OU, FSU, UCLA, Washington, ASU, ND, Standford, USC, Georgia Tech, BC, Arizona, etc. Home and away. All since 2003.

Anybody in the pac ten jumps at the chance to play them in a 1 for 1. They can play the 4 WAC teams at the end of the season if need be.

Why would these BCS teams choose to play BYU when they are in MWC but not when they are independent?

BCS hasn't changed anything. they still have the same bowls. if anything it would be easier for an independent to play in a top bowl.

did you know the rose has to pick a non-bcs team this year if either a pac ten or big ten team plays for the NC?

You're absolutely kidding yourself if you think BYU would get that type of schedule.

We have already seen publications ranking our schedule in the Top 20, so I'm not sure where you're basing your Top 50 SOS for us.
