He'll get a good contract and I think he'll develop into a very productive receiver.  I don't think he'll be a star, but he'll have a decent career.

I don't think it would have been much different if he stayed for his Sr. year. He made the right choice: new coach + new system = uncertainty, plus he's coming off of his best year. No saying whether or not he would be the "goto" receiver this year if he stayed. He'll get drafted today and make some teams roster as a specieal teamer. Great starting point and opportunity to move up from there. His attitude and speed will take him far.

- Possible rookie pay-scale next year

- Possible NFL lockout

- Next years WR class is LOADED at the top

He's still going to be in the same NFL as Sam Bradford, Dez Bryant, and everyone else picked before or after him. The only thing he might have cost himself is money, but even that is debatable depending on a rookie pay-scale being implemented.

Carlton will be playing for his 2nd contract just like most draftees.

more likely to be playing for a roster or practice squad spot

and staying for his senior year somehow guarantees him a roster spot in the NFL?

no, but he would have been able to get another year under his belt.  I think playing for skip holtz would have only improved his playing skills.  He would have had more passes thrown to him this year.

Staying would not have guaranteed him a roster, but another year of development would have allowed him into a better, more highly skilled player therby giving him a better chance to be drafted higher and to be in a position to earn a spot.  Another year of experience.  Another year of learning how to play the position...all these things were lacking in his game. Guys with physical skills are a dime a dozen, not only at the NFL level, but in the NCAA also.  Knowing how to get open, Knowing how to read and adjust, actually being able to catch the ball consistently, etc.

It was easy to see Mitchell still needed a year of development.

Bull94 is oversimplifying his examples. Chris Johnson had $7-million guaranteed in his rookie contract. DeSean Jackson got a $1.35-million signing bonus.

Mitchell will be more like Colston -- little money up front in the form of a bonus. Again, if he makes a roster, he's making $350,000 a year, minimum. Likely four years before he can find big money from a new contract.

Get drafted - make a team - Minimun NFL salry $ 325,000  for the first year - I think thats pretty good.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
