We lost last night half because of piss poor penalty calling by the refs on us and their lack to call anything on Nati...  the other half of why we lost was bad execution on our part... we let a @#$!%&$ backup QB run for a 50-60 yard td, BJ looked awful, our receivers dropped a mess of balls, and our defense folded.

With that said lets put this game behind us, trust that Jimbo Levaitt and his team of coaches will fix the Bulls problems and will take us to a repectabull finish this season and maybe even a Big East title...

Since Nati lost Pike, and a few other starters, they will lose a game or two this season and as long as they lose more Conference games then we do then we still have a shot at winning the Big East.

I'm pissed about the loss as well but feel very confident that Nati will lose some games and will not run the table without Pike. We just need to put this game behind us and win the rest of our Conference games.

If your gonna blame the game of the refs you might as well blame it on someone for not wearing their lucky shirt...

Cincy is one of the least penalized in the nation...we're one of the worst and always have been...

We all knew we were going to lose games this year.  We just got beat by a better a team, that out coached us, outplayed us, and had very few mistakes.

We just have to settle down, and watch us run through the rest of the big east.

And penalties don't cost games.  There is no correlation between the number of penalties and chances to win the game.

cincy's not going to lose 2 conf games. we should root for them not agaianst them

best-case scenario now is for uc to go 12-0 and usf to go 11-1 and we put 2 big east teams in the bcs games

But neither of these things are really going to happen.  Especially the USF 11-1 and thing.

provide proof game by game. and not just ONE game where the better team was more penalized.... i'm talking statistics.

yes some penalties do correlate with wins and losses. maybe not total penalties  but penalties can and do correlate with wins and losses.

No, actually, it can't possibly be true. At least, it isn't true in today's NFL. Perhaps "Hidden Game" was wrong because it was looking only at the 1997 season, or perhaps the NFL has changed over the past decade, but teams with fewer penalties do in fact win more games. Over the past five seasons, the 25 single-season teams with the fewest penalties have averaged nine wins. The 25 single-season teams with the most penalties averaged just 7.1 wins.

On the other hand, not all penalties are created equal. Teams with a lot of offensive penalties lose a lot of games (as St. Louis fans know quite well), but defensive penalties have a negligible effect on wins and losses. Over the past five seasons, the 25 teams with the most offensive penalties averaged six wins, while the 25 teams with the most defensive penalties averaged eight wins -- the league average.

from dallas blog

2) When asked this week about his team's penalty problems, Wade Phillips claimed that penalty totals have no correlation to wins and losses. Is that an accurate statement?

Not really. We studied this at length in the 2007 edition of our Pro Football Prospectus, and we discovered the following:

* There's a .21 correlation between penalties and wins; the 25 most-penalized teams from 2003-2007 averaged 1.5 wins less than the 25 least-penalized teams.

* Penalties on defense and special teams bear little-to-no relationship with success ; the correlation between offensive penalties and wins is .31. To use the same indicator from before, the 25 teams with the most offensive penalties over that timeframe averaged 6.2 wins, while the 25 teams with the least penalties averaged 7.9.

So, then, some penalties have no correlation to wins and losses. Others have a decent correlation.

Agreed- who here really thinks this will happen?  Pitt in the rain and 50 degree weather, Rutgers on a Thursday night on national TV, Miami and Jacory Harris (forget the home field advantage) and UConn in December. HMMMM
