They survived, but the NCAA has put the clamps down on practice time. What you could do 1f years ago you can't today. So lightning cancelled practices are never regain during he fall or 2adays.

I know Florida uses a parking garage now and FSU uses the basketball practice facility.

So yes, they are somewhat helpful in today's NCAA.

Indoor is not overrated, practices  with thunderstorms must be delayed or cancelled.

With the NCAA now severely limiting practice time you need all you can.

FSU is getting ready to fund one...Florida isn't far behind.

Both schools and the U seemed to do fine without them up to this point.  They are more neccessary for northern schools with sever winters and falls.

None of those schools are in lightning central.

You're not paying attention. Knight_Light said that FSU lost to Clemson this year specifically because they had pracitces rained out leading up to the game .... What more evidence do you need??

USF cancels 2nd Practice in 3 days due to.............hhhhmmmm.......what was it?....Oh...RAIN!!!

USF doesn't need an indoor practice facility...because their head coach wants a snack shack built.

Come on...its been almost 2-3 years since Leavitt wanted a simple dining hall built...and with all the Big East $$$$ rolling in...one would think USF could be not one, but TWO of them to please their coach.

Suggestion: Put in a hot dog vendor spot INSIDE the indoor practice facility...and USF could say they were able to do both in the same project.

IF SOMEONE KICKED MY BUTT AS BAD AS USF KICKED YOUR BUTT I DON'T THINK I'D HANG AROUND TALKING SMACK.  SERIOUSLY THERE ARE A COUPLE OF HIGH SCHOOLS IN FLORIDA WHO COULD STAY WITHIN 50 POINTS.

When the NBE was looking to fill the voids left when their top tier programs left, they still wanted a big southern presence, It came down to facilities when choosing a program, nothing more. USF had the b-ball arena that could host Big East caliber teams UCF did not. at the time USF was a mere spec on the radar of Div 1 football. USF was not picked becuase of of superior athletic programs... it was buildings...thats it.

UCF took this very seriously and answered with every conceivable building they could think of, No school in NCAA history ever opened an arena and football stadium in the same year before, adding to top notch baseball/softball facilities were a state of the art convo/arena, a new on campus stadium (modular design for expansion) the Wayne Densch football training building, and indoor practice facility.

Even the most ardent UCF hated would have to admit that the "athletic downtown" area is unbelievably gorgous.

Timing was our enemy, not USF. UCF now has better facilities BY FAR ! a nicer and larger campus for growth. So when the BE needs to expand to 12 teams, or another BCS conf needs addition, UCF would have to considered. Of course with BCS affiliation better athletes will come, thats what USF has over UCF in terms of recruiting tools. So until the Biggest Conspiracy in Sports is eliminated we'll keep building.

FSU moving closer to building an indoor football practice facility?

Comments from Bobby Bowden 2 days ago as his team has been juggling practice time schedules due to recent thunderstorms:

Head Coach Bobby Bowden:

On moving practice up due to bad weather:

"We were lucky to get it in. We had planned to practice at either 8:30 or 10:30, trying to judge the weather. It opened up enough for us to get our practice in, so that was good."

On the need for an indoor football practice facility:

"There is no doubt about it. You can see the liability we have. It's something we can't control. If it rains, we can practice in the rain, but with lightning you're forced to go inside.

"I think the big thing now is everybody recognizes [the need for an indoor football facility]. I always thought we don't need one, it's too hot down here. Who wants to go into an old building and practice? But now everybody recognizes it's getting worse."

On a missing a practice because of whether in the spring versus the fall:

"It's not as bad because we don't have a ball game. There was one time in the late 80's when we had a ball game against Miami and didn't get outside all week. We practiced inside but you can't throw long passes or punt or practice kickoffs. We were leading them by 10 going into the fourth quarter but they came back and beat us."

I'll see the value when O'Leary wins a game and attributes it to the indoor practice facility.
