in order for USF to get an at-large BCS bid, they need a little help from this guy...

unfortunately, this guy doesn't have such a positive outlook on our chances...

Hey, I wasn't saying that our chances were good, I am just saying that there still is a chance. If the scenario were to play out and we somehow moved up to the 16-18 spot, anything is possible, especially if WVU is in the NC game, as it would raise our profile slightly.

Maybe JimUSFSig can compile a list of the scenario that would give USF the best chance to move on up into BCS eligibility......:)

But at this point in the season, I think we're more interested in probable than possible. But, your original post did add the disclaimer that this is 'far fetched', so that's ok. Now, wouldn't we also need a flyover by black helicopters and crop circle 'bout mid field?

you are a fan inthe true sense of the word...if it is possible we should all have hope...screw all the nn believers.

think about it this way. if before the first game of the season, you had posted "USF might be ranked #2 in the BCS if...." we would all have said you are F$#%ing nuts. but it was possible and it did happen.

Unfortunatly, now that we are talking about it, we may have officially jinxed it

;D

Remember, this only matters is USF beats Pitt this weekend...

Maybe this would help explain things... here is the current BCS:

1. LSU 10-1

2. Kansas 11-0

3. West Virginia 9-1

4. Missouri 10-1

5. Ohio State 11-1

6. Arizona State 9-1

7. Georgia 9-2

8. Virginia Tech 9-2

9. Oregon 8-2

10. Oklahoma 9-2

11. USC 8-2

12. Florida 8-3

13. Texas 9-2

14. Boston College 9-2

--------------------------------------------------------------------

15. Hawaii 10-0

16. Virginia 9-2

17. Illinois 9-3

18. Tennessee 8-3

19. Boise State 10-1

20. Connecticut 9-2

21. Wisconsin 9-3

22. Clemson 8-3

23. South Florida 8-3

24. Cincinnati 8-3

25. BYU 8-2

Okay... Let's say the bold teams in the Top 14 are the conference champions... the italicized teams would be 3 of the at large teams.  Notice that no conference can have more than two teams in the BCS.  If the teams in red lose, there could be a problem...

1. Va Tech beats Virginia then Boston College, the ACC only has 1 team in the Top 14...

2. Boise St beats Hawaii, there are no Mid-Major teams in the Top 14...

3. Tennessee loses to either Kentucky or LSU...

4. U Conn loses to WVU, of course....

5. Clemson loses to South Carolina...

Under that scenario, the #14 slot would probably go to Illinois, who would get the last BCS at-large selection.

Now, USF could crack the Top 14 if the above 5 things happen... AND

A. Texas loses to Texas A&M

B. Oklahoma loses to both Oklahoma State AND the Missouri/Kansas winner

C. USC loses to Arizona State

D. Florida loses to Florida State

That would make Illinois #11, Wisconsin #12, and South Florida #13... Assuming Boise State's computer rankings don't improve, even a win over Hawaii won't get them into the Top 14.

So, sure... it's possible... but very highly unlikely.

I might be wrong here, but if Oklahoma loses to Oklahoma State, doesn't that mean that Texas goes to the Big 12 championship game?

someone from Notre Dame is scouring that document trying to read the fine print that says certain 2 win teams also qualify for BCS bowls.

Lol!!

He meant more than two teams in the BCS.

Great work Jim illustrating what I was trying to convey with my confusing post. If all those loses above us were to occur there is a chance, albeit a small one, that we could leap over Wisconsin and Illinois. Our computer average would be better and would only be helped with another blowout win and a WVU win.

I am a realist, but sometimes its fun to just hope.
