Currently, the SEC has 4, Pac 10 has 3 and Big 12 has 3 teams ranked in the top 14. Of those 10 teams, only a maximum of 6 can make a BCS bowl. The BCS is going to expand the eligible pool of teams to 18 in the event that there are not enough teams to fill the 10 slots in the top 14. The teams who could potentially benefit from this new rule are as follows:Illinois, Connecticut, Wisconsin, Clemson, USF, and Cincy. Only Uconn can truly play itself into the top 14 with a win. However, it is possible that USF could slide up over the last two weeks of the season with teams above them losing (BSU, Clemson, UCONN, Hawaii, Virginia, Auburn, BYU, Tenn. may all lose. USF's computer ranking is 19. If we were able to creep into the 19 spot in the polls, we could easily end up #16-18 in the BCS poll. If the scenario occurs in which only one ACC, one BE, and one Big 10 team were in the top 14, with no eligible Top 12/Top 16 non-BCS, USF COULD be BCS eligible. That does not sound right.

The top-14 rule is for at-large teams. Also, no more than 2 teams in any conference can make the BCS.

Its not great, but its something. How about USF to the Orange to play BC??
