dude... it's freakin AUBURN...  in his 2nd college game.

anyone that rushes for 74 yards against Auburn is pretty **** good.

Excellent point.

I agree.

Ben Williams had a higher average that game

More TDs this year

Why won't the coaches play him?!?

Maybe he would have had 100+ yards

This is what the Ford argument sounds like

There is almost no correlation between feature backs and winning.  Demand a better turnover margin or less sack/TFL's or something instead.

Ben Williams had a 19 yard run, and finished with 18....... dont be an idiot.

5 carries for 18, with one being 19 is a greeeaaaaat game.

Oh his average was 3.6, fords was 3.5, big deal.

errrr uhhh...

Williams had 3.6 ypc...  HUGE difference there.  ::)

and if ESPN's box score for the Auburn game is correct, BBQ had 5 rushes for 18 yards and 0 TD... with a long of 19.

im sure his other runs weren't all negative, but if 1 of his 5 runs was 19 yards and he ended up with a total of only 18 yards, he **** sure wasn't goin too far with the other 4 runs, which averaged a loss of -0.25 yards.

Mike was 21 att for 74 yards and 1 TD, with a long of 20. his other 20 carries went for 54 yards, an average gain of 2.7

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=272510002

"there are lies, **** lies and statistics..."

that said, none of what i've written in this thread is an argument for using the Ford as our "featured back."

in fact,  i completely agree that BBQ is the more complete player.  we need him.  he is reliable and a total workhorse and team player.  shoot, i've made threads myself about why the Ford isn't ready to be an every down guy, but the thread got locked for some strange reason (i guess if i had made another thread about why Delbert can't make a field goal or why we should never throw the ball to Amarri, it would have been ok.)

regardless, Mike could still get more carries.  featured back?  not yet.  but 5 or 6 touches a game is not enough.

less naked bootleg, more Mike Ford.

Ford had a long of 20.  Take that out and his average drops to almost 2.5/carry.  Not impressive either, is it?

You might not say Ford shouldn't be the featured back but countless others do

The point of what I said was to show how incredibly ridiculous the arguments for running Ford 25 times a game are.

When people want Ford in they use numbers (TDs and avgs) and antecdotal evidence of one or two good runs to justify it

No different than the argument I made for Williams

I think Ford and Taylor would be a good one two punch in the future.  Ford is going to prove all the haters wrong I think.

Who should it be?

I would really like to have Ford in.  He did good enough in his start against THE Auburn University.  He had a little fumbling problem and had class issues, but if he's over it, then play the kid.

My realistic pick would be Jamar Taylor

TALYOR IS clearly the best

equally obvious is that leavitt has no confidence in any of our backs

If they're going to telegraph most of the running plays it doesn't really matter who the back is.

I think we need to sign players that can block AND run to the left!

Just my pet peeve.  I think any one of the three would be ok with some help.  Our play selection has turned so vanilla, I don't think it really matters.

GO BULLS!

FINISH STRONG!

Mike Ford should be the featured running back, but both Taylor and Williams are highly talented as well so I think a three-back system is just fine. As much as I like Plancher, he really needs to transfer.

bingo.

7 plays in the playbook is NOT ENOUGH to put together a BCS-bowl worthy season.

we had 7 plays in 2005 with Dre, and what was our record?

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
