Wait, if we win out West Virginia could make it in over us just because of BCS ranking? If that is true than that is absolute crap!

Yeah, thats what I thought. So back to what I was saying, but yeah I forgot Rutgers only had one conference loss so obviously i'll be pulling for WVU when they play Rutgers.

Why?  The BE has no tiebreaker.  They declare co-champions and the bowls invite whoever they want under BCS rankings rules.

That's true in the case of a three(or more)-way tie.  If it's just two teams then it's head-to-head.

Also... UConn is still unbeaten in Big East play, so both WVU and we have to win out for us to get into the head-to-head situation - it's not just RU we have to worry about.

Bottom line: let's just make sure we win out - the ranking (at the end of the season - the only one that really matters) will take care of itself.

I take back everything I said.  I know this was a big debate the last 2 years and the BE had no tiebreaker system.  This must be new this year which is good news for us as long as Rutgers looses another game.

SEASON CHAMPION

The BIG EAST Champion is the team that finishes the regular season with the

highest winning percentage in conference games. If more than one team has the

same winning percentage, the tied teams are declared co-champions.

PROBATION:

A team on NCAA or Conference Probation, which includes a ban on bowl

participation, is not eligible for the Conference Championship.

BOWL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES REPRESENTATIVE TIEBREAKER

PROCEDURE

In order to determine the Conference’s representative to the Bowl Championship

Series, the procedures listed below will be followed.

All references to “rankings†refer to the BCS Poll released after the regular season is

completed for all BIG EAST members.

TWO-WAY TIE

The winner of the head to head match-up will represent the BIG EAST in the

Bowl Championship Series

THREE-WAY TIE

A “MINI-CONFERENCE†IS CREATED AMONGST THE THREE TIED

TEAMS

Scenario I:

All three teams have either a 6-1 or 5-2 record and have each won one and

lost one against the other tied teams in the mini-conference. In this case, the

highest ranked team amongst the three earns the bid. If two of the three

teams are tied for the highest ranking, the bid is earned by the team winning

the head-to-head match up.

Scenario II:

All three teams have 5-2 records, and within the mini-conference, Team A is

2-0, Team B is 1-1, and Team C is 0-2. Team A earns bid regardless of

ranking.

FOUR-WAY TIE

A “MINI-CONFERENCE†IS CREATED AMONGST THE FOUR TIED

TEAMS

Scenario I:

In the mini-conference, Teams A & B are 2-1, and Teams C & D are 1-2.

The higher ranked of the 2-1 teams earns the bid. If the 2-1 teams tie for the

highest ranking, the bid goes to the team that won the head-to-head match

up.

Scenario II:

In the mini-conference, Team A is 3-0, Team B is 2-1, Team C is 1-2, and

Team D is 0-3. Team A earns bid regardless of ranking.

unless there is some strange fluke and all the top 10 teams lose, our chance for the NC is gone and so the BCS doesn't matter.

The BCS standings and rules most decidedly do matter, in that they afford USF a way to make a BCS bowl game even if they don't win the Big East. USF can get into the top four, which affords an automatic bid, or the top 14 can fall out in a way where the BCS bowls would be forced to invite us. See this post for details.
