USF or South Florida???

Question for you all:

After hearing Steve Duemig on the radio this afternoon, he had made a comment about getting the press and such to refer to us as USF, and not South Florida, S. Florida, and South Fl.  This is because every time we are coined as something other than USF, we are lumped into the "directional school" way of thinking. 

So, do you agree with this?  What do you refer to us as?

I for one know that I rarely, if ever, call us anything but USF.  I feel that USF sounds better, especially since we technically aren't in South Florida (even though when we were started, we were the first state university south of the original two up in Tallahassee and Gainesville).

I'm still a big proponent of changing the name from University of South Florida to University of Florida at Tampa.  Think about it, it's more accurate, it sounds better, it takes out the "regional" moniker, and it gives us instant credibility for being associated with the Gators.

I thought that the school was trying to market us as USF, not South Florida.  This was pretty prominent in the press guides etc. when we moved to the new logo and colors.  Either they have not done a good job at expressing that, or we are just so embedded as South Florida that within the flow of conversation it cannot change.

At the time I liked the thought of promoting USF a la USC to get away from the whole "where are you" issue.  But, I went to the University of South Florida, I tell people South Florida and still stick to it as well.

So, why fight it, but I do remember that the school did want to shift to USF.

I think National Champs simply is the best though.

As long as the University of San Francisco is around, I doubt we'll get called USF.
