The MCCB was not happy about last year's attendance and was looking for a fail safe to ensure good attendance.  Navy will bring 20k and they will spent.  That's the name of the Bowl Game.  Attendance and following.  That is why an Iowa will go to a decent bowl even though they suck this year. That is why Wisconsin will play on New Years Day every year unless they really blow.

DD-214... haven't heard that word in a while. I did my six years of submarine service, but I can never find myself cheering for an academy undergrad playing football unless its against Army. Navy will travel well... hopefully they'll lose worse than we did last season.

Actually, our best case scenario would be to go to the gator bowl.  It's close enough to Tampa that more people would likely make the trip.

I think that comparing Navy's season ticket base to their bowl attendance is a lil flawed because it's a a situation that MOST schools don't deal with.

At USF the majority of our alumni base stays in Tampa, whereas at Navy, you're sent for 5 years to somewhere around the world. After which, if you choose to stay in the Navy you are assigned to another area. Finally add to that only 4400 or so students currently attend Annapolis, you can see that establishing a season ticket base just isn't easy.

Like Wooley said, where Navy gets their fans from is those who served in the Navy, regardless of whether they went to school at Anapolis. There are Navy vets in the far reaches of every corner of the US, which is why the game always attracts fans so well. The same can be said for Army, and to a lessor extent Air Force (they don't have as many vetrens as I'm sure many know on here).

You a Navy vet wooley?

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

“This is not a broken football program by any means. It just needs to be united, to get everybody on the same page, share that same vision, and really to have that standard - best is the standard.”
