  1. I am all for that, would love to see Magee as HC and Burnham as DC. Couldn't find two better coaches or people. IMO, pay them and bring them in. One thing about USF when they were here with Leavitt, no one pushed us around or out toughed USF. Need that type of play back.
  2. I am in the Calvin Magee camp, in my opinion no one would represent USF and Tampa better by bringing exciting, hard hitting football back to USF. Not only would he be good representing/coaching the program, but my son attended a camp where he was his coach and was outstanding. My son came away a Coach Magee fan and still says he was his first football coach. When you make an impact like that on young kids, when they are being recruited in HS they remember. I am all in for Magee as the USF coach.
  3. Could be that the guy wanted to protect his job until a better offer was finalized. (You think?) I am sure all us "take the high road" guys go right in and tell our current bosses that I am looking for something better, but if it doesn't turn up we plan to stay. Geez, use you head, what the hell do you expect them to say? He found a better job, more power to him. You would do the same.
  4. It will definitely kill the conference love for each other.  It goes to show you that it's always about the money.
  5. Is it a better offer? If USF didn't step up, you can't blame him. If I remember correctly, wasn't he one of the lower paid O-line coaches in the Big East. I wish him well.
  6. O-line deserves much higher. Does anyone know how many combinations were used this year? How many injuries were dealt with? The best lineman was dismissed from the team. Yet, every week the product not only didn't deteriorate, it got better! Coach Frey deserves Coach of the Year for this years line. As for Williams, nice kid and I am glad he had a nice senior year, but he is not a D-IA back. By only having him in the backfield hurt this team.
  7. Why should Bush stay? He already stayed once and got a broken leg. I say go, you owe the school nothing. Hell, Petrino left without finishing one year of a 10 year contract! How can UL ask this kid to defer making a living when his own Coach bolted for the cash. Hell, I'll bet Petrino was sitting in Bush's house talking about loyalty and the program, hypocrit! Bush was smart, Brohm should b too.
  8. Does Florida's NC hurt USF's recruiting efforts? After last night, I think so. If I was a top RB, I would be talking to UF because they need one to repeat. Interested in views?
  9. SInce when does a stadium have to be tied to a championship. The current situation at RJ create one of the worst college football environments in the BCS. Ok, Cinn has us beat, but that is about it! An on campus stadium is a must. I couls see RJ if USF was an urban school like Pitt, but Fowler is about 20 miles away and seems longer. You want sell outs, college enthusiasm, and a home field that will attract Gameday, build a stadium on campus!
  10. Let's face it, a USF football game is not the venue of choice for the USF student. I would love to know how many go to Gainesville or Tallahassee for games. The current set up is great for recruiting, but sucks for fans. USF needs an on-campus stadium to get to the next level. The on-the-field product is there. It is the lack of a fan base that is hurting. Let's face it, Bowls will prefer a 6-6 Iowa team to a 9-3 USF team. Why, Iowa will bring 30k fans. Why do you think we were in B-ham and not Charlotte? Navy brings fans. USF will never be a good bowl team until the fans start to show up.
  11. Huh? Have you seen any of the Big 10 bands? Or, the PAC-10? HOT is not in the same universe. HOT has ALOT of work to do to be up there with USC, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Penn State. I saw all but USC in person, we need to do some work.
  12. Weather does not recruit players. You think Ohio State, Michigan, ND, or Norman have trouble getting top recruits to go there because it gets cold? Or for that matter that LSU has trouble getting kids to go live in a swamp? Or Auburn where it is oppresively hot? Weather works both ways and is overrated. Nah, it is all about the program and the chance to go to the NFL. As for the good looking, they are at every major university, even in the cold. Ever been to a bar in Ann Arbor, Madison, Columbus or ND after a football game? Believe me there are just as many hot women there as at USF and football players do not have trouble meeting them. Women are not an issue at the BCS level! Top recruits want to go to the NFL. Win and put players in the NFL, that will bring the big name/top recruits. Whole thing is about $$. Get them in the NFL and they will come regardless of what the temp is on Dec 15th.
  13. Who cares? All programs have suspensions and kids that don't meet academics, even the service academies. Why are we so concerned with saying that USF is above such things. It is a fact of life. It is unrealistic to expect a program not to have such things happen. If you believe that USF is above UF, USC, Texas, ND, FSU, Miami or the rest of the BCS, you are living in a Marshmallow World. USF is no better or worse than any other BCS program in regards to academics, suspensions, or player dismissals. Most importantly, there is nothing wrong with that. Great season!!!! Totally beat expectations.
  14. You graded the line? 83%, huh. What would Coach Frey do without you.
  15. C'mon, they are just joking. Like it or not, some pretty funny jokes come out of some pretty bad situations. Actually, that is what makes them funny. Can you think of one funny thing that does not cause someone some embarrassment? How about not being so sensitive and cutting the board some slack. They are just joking and a lot of them are humorous. I don't think anyone truly is wishing ill will toward him. He did something stupid and will be teased about it unmercifully. as it should be. Guys will be guys. : )
  16. He is not the only USF coach who I am worried that could go to FSU.
  17. Why? Magee was a USF coach for a long time. He knows that if you can recruit Florida it makes life easier. WVU may not pay its Assistants at Bama levels, but it may top USF levels.
  18. This is a major problem and will continually impact the Bulls bowls in the future. If you play in a 40k stadium on campus, 30 to 32 is not bad. But, playing in the Roman Colisium sized RJ, it is worse. The scary thing is that last year the offensive product was bad and produced difficul games to watch. However, this year the offense was exciting and it still did not attract fans. Unless the Big East starts to assign teams to bowls in the order of finish, we will be going to the Birmingham and International Bowls of the world, no matter how good we are. It will be BCS or crap facing non-BCS teams. This is not good.
  19. No, USF played ECU three times. USF won all three and left the conference. Why would anyone want to go back to play teams in a conference they left, especially if they are in a non-BCS conference? I want to see new blood, new BCS blood. The fun of Bowls is playing teams you do not normally see or at least it used to be. The fun of the Rose Bowl is that the Big 10 does not typically play the PAC-10 until the Rose Bowl. It is the same reason I hate interleague play in baseball. It was special when the AL played the NL in the series. Now, it is common place. Even if you take the BCS thing out of it. I would rather see Rice, Tulsa, or one of the other new C-USA schools that USF has not played. Or even a MAC team we have not played. We played ECU already and there was nothing special about it. We were not rivals, we did not hate each other. It was simply another conference game. No knock on ECU or their program, just we've been there and done that. Hell, ECU can win this game, as I said. However, that is not my point.
  20. I don't like the fact that we are facing a C-USA team. They may beat us, stranger things have happened, but the point is I want to see us play a BCS conference opponent. I would feel the same about any non-BCS conference team, not just ECU. ECU is as good as any other C-USA team, but from my perspective it is "been there, done that" situation. I
  21. What is wrong with using his being considered for high profile jobs as a Bully-Pulpit to get some things done? I did not say it as a negative, to the contrary I think it is a shrewd move to throw that out there at this time. I actually have a little more respect for CJL since reading that. He is playing in a game of big business, he should use every oppportunity to better his program and USF's facilities. By the way, I thought you would like the Friedman comment. "Capitalism and Freedom" should be required reading in all middle schools. Gotta get em while their young! "Give me a child to educate until they are 7 and you can have them the rest of thier life." - Francis Xaviar.
  22. Can't make it that far south. Am planning on gpoing to Toronto, though. If the stars align.
  23. I am in the Upper Midwest. I recieved several e-mails from clients in Wisconsin and Chicago saying that USF looked great. The only negative up here is that they are saying it was a trap game for WVU with Rutgers this week. Oh well, still positive. ESPN cna reach a lot of people.
