To play devils advocate......I didnt  see the major media out for blood when that clemson and south carolina fight a few years back.  This is being pumped up because of the U's reputation.

Clemson and SC declined their bowl game. Thats alot worse than Duke. As I remember the fight wasn't as bad as this one was either.

You are right about Miami's reputation pumping this up. Three fights in one year (LSU, Louisville, FIU). Don't get me wrong, FIU is just as bad for this, but UM is out of control without anything being done except wrist slaps.

....and that Bianchi tool had the audacity to call USF a "renegade program".

What have we learned over the last three weeks:

1. FLorida can make a 2nd drug suspension vanish w/o being called out by the media.

2. UM can get away with murder with a slap on the wrist.

3. The Tampa  Tribune has yet to acknowledge what is developing into Jim Leavitt's best coaching job yet.

or if they dont want to hurt all the players (there actually were a few that were trying to stop it all)

then suspend any player who was prolonging the fight (after the initial defense of attack) for the rest of the season.

its ugly anyway you look at it and a lot worse then south carolina and clemson.

Maybe it's a common practice in PROFESSIONAL hockey where grown men "duke it out" but I find it completely unacceptable in NCAA athletics, where you're still dealing with kids.

FIU started the fight. If this happened against us we may be in the same situation as may any other team in the country.

i agree...i am pretty sure that most of the players now regret what they did but if you see the other team beating up your guys....emotion runs high...and its hard to hold back...

The NCAA, in a statement released Monday, called the fight "wholly unacceptable" and said it hoped the added sanctions taken by Miami and FIU shows "that such behavior is not tolerated."

Miami president Donna Shalala said in an open letter that the fight was "outrageous."

And look at the punishment ...  ::)

And the UM players were using this as a rallying cry for the remainder of the game. Lucky thee wasn't another incident. But Miami is having an avg. year and they get riled by an 0-7 team that is 7 years old ?

NCAA NEEDS a ruling that would punish harshly for benches being cleared. and make a statement with both teams !
