He said that the biggest game of the year for them was when they played the Chicago Bears, and that George Halas, the Bears' owner, was rumored to have a cash bonus waiting for any Bear who knocked Hornung out of the game.Hornung said he remembered carrying the ball on a run down the sidelines and he was tackled close to the Bears' bench. When he tried to get back up and go to the huddle, he couldn't get up. It took him a minute to realize it but he saw that somebody was standing on his arm, and when he looked up it was George Halas (who also coached the team). btw, Halas had a great deal of respect from those in the NFL and is still fondly thought of today.I don't advocate anything but good sportsmanship, but doing something like Vick did has been done in the past. See article below from my local (Norfolk) paper.Vick's career at Tech is over FILE PHOTO By KYLE TUCKER, The Virginian-Pilot © January 6, 2006 | Last updated 4:59 PM Jan. 6 Quarterback Marcus Vick’s career at Virginia Tech ended this afternoon. The university released a statement at 4:49 p.m. saying that he has been permanently dismissed from the football program “due to a cumulative effect of legal infractions and unsportsmanlike play.†Coach Frank Beamer met with Vick and his mother, Brenda Boddie, today and informed them of the decision. “His actions are unfortunate and we wish him well in the future,†the release said. In it, Beamer added: “I’m very disappointed that this didn’t have a better ending. We wanted what’s best for this football team and Marcus. I certainly wish him the best.†A previously scheduled press conference at 11 a.m. Saturday will go on, where Beamer, athletic director Jim Weaver and Tech president Charles Steger will comment on the dismissal. Guest BullsFans
Did Hornung have proof that it actually happened? Was Halas there to defend himself against Hornung's accusations. In the case of Vick, there is video evidence and he is able to defend himself if he so chooses.Years ago the KKK routinely committed unspeakabe acts while people turned their heads, does that mean we should tolerate or excuse those acts today? His arrogance after he was kicked out was "who gives a sheat! I'm going to the next level. baby!" I just hope NO NFL team takes an intrest in his ass. Let him go back to the curb of the ghetto where he belongs! There is no place in football for anyone with his attitude. Like someone else said, nice role model for kids!!!
