GAME DAY vs. FAMU

USF will look to snap a two-game losing streak in home openers (falling to BYU in 2022 and Florida in 2021) when it takes the field at Raymond James Stadium for the first time under first-time head coach Alex Golesh. The 39-year-old Golesh will look to become the fifth USF head coach to win their home debut and the third straight. A 39-year old Jim Leavitt won the Bulls’ very first game in 1997 vs. Kentucky Weslyan (80-3) in old Tampa Stadium.

RUSHING ATTACK: USF ran for 374 yards, the eighth-best total in program history, with two 100-yard rushers in the debut of Golesh’s fast tempo offense at WKU. USF ranks No. 2 nationally in rushing and No. 17 in total offense (540 ypg) with QB Byrum Brown standing No. 6 in rushing yards per game (160) and RB Nay’Quan Wright No. 23 (111).

STREAKS COLLIDE: USF enters Saturday looking to end an 11-game losing skid while FAMU, the preseason favorite to win the SWAC East, enters the game riding a 10-game winning streak. Both teams bring prolific rushing games to the game with USF posting 374 yards on the ground in its opener and FAMU logging 207.

DEFENSE RISING: USF’s new defense under coordinator Todd Orlando featured six new starters and six transfers in its debut at WKU. It forced three three-and-outs and a turnover on four downs in WKU’s first five possessions and tallied six three-and-outs on 14 WKU possessions, including three in a row late in the second half as USF rallied.

NEW LOOK BULLS: USF will hit the field with 56 new players, 38 of those scholarship players. Among the positions Alex Golesh and his staff brought in the most new scholarship players are on the offensive line (8), wide receiver (7), defensive tackle (5) and secondary (5). The Bulls have 24 of those players appearing in the depth chart, including 13 on offense, nine on defense and two specialists.
