It would be way too late to consider.  We anchored to the AAC and underperformed.  We anchored ourselves to UCF and they moved on. At the top of our performance (primarily football) with Leavitt

I mean UCF, Cinnicinatti, and Houston won a lot more than they lost in the AAC and moved up to the big12. BYU performed well on their own since the AAC was formed and earned their way to the Big12 Byu only one losing season since the AAC is formed. BYU is able to schedule some decent teams independently but their name holds a lot more weight than USf since Leavitt was fired. If we went independent , could schedule quality schedules, and win more games than we lost then it could have helped USF. Unfortunately it would not have mattered based on the teams performance since the AAC was formed.  I don't think being in the AAC helped USf because we lost more than we won, but if we dominated we would have got the call up. USF is USF's biggest enemy since they fired Leavitt. They can't find one coach that can consistently win since Leavitt. We neglected athletics under Judy at the expense of Academics. Myself I care more about athletics then trying to be the Harvard of Hillsborough County. Winning would solve our problems , but we need a coach that can win consistently. Hopefully AG is that guy  that erases the curse of Judy and Jim, but he has never been a head coach before. I wouldn't bet on him doing that but I hope it happens. I don't really have high hopes in trusting AD MK's process because he thought extending the worse FBS coach in modern football was a good idea.

I view sobriety as more of a spectrum than a binary. Mostly I struggled with there being a limited amount of data you can put in one post and not knowing what that limit was until you go to post it. The summary is the aac was pretty bad when we formed it, it has continued to get worse, you don’t become higher profile by creating poor associations and our trajectory has directly followed that of our conference journey.
