Five guys at VCU entered the portal the day Odom was named coach.

Interesting .... Was a VCU assistant in there as a candidate which may have contributed to this when he didn't get the job?

Yeah, looks like the writing was on the wall.

But after what seemed a rather messy breakup with Rhoades and administration in which players openly voiced discontent on social media, it seems unlikely that much of VCU’s current roster will stay intact.

Looks like CRO's going to need a CBG type rebuild there coming in ..

Odom is expected to play a much different system in comparison to Rhoades and has over the years recruited a different profile of player, particularly in the frontcourt.

His teams reflect Odom’s profile at H-SC as a knockdown shooter with heightened spacing and analytical principles, whereas Rhoades’ teams were, generally, built around defense, toughness and athleticism.

This contrast is surely part of the mass exodus on Broad Street.

Looks like Boggs is entering the portal. Also incoming freshmen, Myles Che,  decommited from USF. Doesn’t seem like AAR thought highly of him so he’s going to another school. Right now the team technically has 2 scholarships available but could be more if others transfer out (Chaplin; Patrick). I expect Kennesaw States starting PG, Terrell Burden, to enter the portal this week and follow the other 3 to Tampa. He would fill the starting PG role on the team as a 5th year senior. Would be a good get.

If we can keep Ryan Conwell, Selton Miguel, Sam Hines, Corey Walker, Big Russ and Dok, the frosh signee Anthony Robinson, and add these Kennesaw transfers, that’s a solid roster for 2023-24. That’s not a rebuild. You can win with that bunch.

Agreed but they need to target a power forward/stretch 4 type of player. You cant count on Corey Walker to be that guy. He’s good in spurts but is still way too erratic. Also cant put Hines there if you are serious about winning. If they can land Burden and a veteran forward AND keep those returning player then I think we will be very interesting.

That would be a major plus. If they can tap some of his potential that he’s shown in flashes and makes him more consistent then this team will be a lot better

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
