You mean, should our local stadium support a Chicago based hotdog company over the local Mel's?

It is a great question. If USF is destined for a Big Ten invite then go with Portillo’s. If we are settling for an ACC invite then go with Mel’s

If you're angry about the local paper covering UF and FSU, you can't also want Portillo's in the OCS.

Yes, absolutely. I don't really understand the logic any other way? "Oh but there are so many alumni in Tampa from FSU so we need to write for them." This makes no sense...a ton of people in Tampa used to live in New York but you don't see local New York stuff on the front page. The school in the actual market where the newspaper is should be the most newsworthy...it is certainly the school with the largest economic impact in the area, certainly the school with the actual games taking place in the area, etc. Quite shocking you would think anything different.

USF is second fiddle to the University of Florida in the Bay area plain and simple.  This can be seen by how many people watch UF games on TV versus USF games in the Tampa Bay MSA... it can be seen by how many more UF license plates there are than USF plates in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties... it can be seen in terms of merchandise sales.

I desperately wish it wasn't the case.  But if the people in Tampa Bay don't care about USF, why would the newspaper in Tampa Bay care more?

The reasons are myriad... USF administration's failure to capitalize on the early successes is a big big part of it.  But it's the raw truth.

But it's also not a permanent situation.  USF needs to win, yes... but USF fans and alumni need to support USF no matter what.  They need to watch the 1-11 team lose on ESPNU.  They need to put USF license plates on their cars and trucks.  They need to watch the coaches shows.  They need to buy USF merchandise at stores in their communities, and ask for it if the stores don't stock it.  USF fans need to buy tickets to the games and actually attend for more than just tailgating.

No one should expect the newspaper to do what people aren't willing to do.

I am not actually angry about the first one, but would endorse Mel's for president.

What's the first? Like a buttered toasted roll?  🤔

I love the comment that Tampa is a great food town and exhibit A is a hot dog place. Never change, Tampa! (Not even being facetious)
