Rec'd an email with a link to Performance Report https://giving.usf.edu/reports/performance21/?j=64664&sfmc_sub=22407241&l=42_HTML&u=1431910&mid=534000636&jb=2002&utm_campaign=MarketingCloud&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Email+%231+-+Performance+Report&utm_content=PR22 and came across this.  Not sure how many alums there are but if there are 250,000 then the average donation is $50.  That is total to the University, not Athletics. Have no idea how that compares to other schools but seems low.

DONOR COMMITMENTS BY SOURCE

Alumni $12,662,768
Corporations $60,405,084
Employees $1,046,525
Friends $48,362,187
Parents $1,870,554
Foundations $16,254,966
Estates $1,905,500
Other $9,258,613
Total

$151,766,197

I wonder if these are in the order they are considered. Meaning I am Alumni and staff, where are my dollars counted (or are they split between both categories). I'm sure many of the corporate, foundations and estate gifts are alumni too.

A gift made by someone like @CousinRicky would be considered a gift from a "friend" since he is not a USF Alumnus.

Ah fascinating!  It's good to have friends like that!  Can someone be my friend?

This goes back years, but we met Judy at an Alumni event (we are life members although not considered alumni) and she asked when we graduated. Told her we didn't and that we were always confused as to what to call ourselves. She was the first to tell us to tell people we are Friends of the university.

At some point friends trying to be supportive can become enablers.  Hey Cuz, can you take the keys from USF?  Friends don't let friends drive drunk.

I'm over 65. People already trying to take the keys from me.

Miss you and the bride. If you get down to FL let us know.

I couldn't drive so well even before turning gray.

Miss you both as well.  I was down in Tampa this past weekend but, unfortunately, for two funerals.

On the bright side, daughter's team won state high school volleyball championship in their classification.  So, something to cheer about.

Alumni can be a flexible term. Sometimes it's defined as graduates. Other times it includes non-graduated former students (e.g., went for a semester and dropped out) as well.  According to usf.edu, "There are more than 311,000 USF graduates..." so that would be around $40/individual. However, a lot of warm bodies passed through USF before '97, so it's not surprising that alumni donations are what they are.
