South Florida has shown a bit more zest on offense, but its defense simply can't stop opponents on a consistent basis. Scott's record sits at an unsightly 4-24 (1-17 in AAC play). The team still has three road games left, plus the home finale against 5-1 UCF. It's hard to see things turning around for Scott, or any path back for him in 2023.”

Ok so if 4 of USF most important teams  (including the top two) are having/had historically bad seasons - according to Dave, maybe things have gotten better in the last two weeks? Idk. Definitely not for football - then does that not mean USF athletics is having a historically bad year?

When we hired him a lot of us called it 'Year Zero' so by that logic he's only in year two and every coach should get 3 years

Injuries to this team this year have been quite numerous. 

There might be 1 more thing somewhere but thats what i got so far

The last time that I checked (about 4 weeks ago, which was the last time someone brought up year zero), the 2020 season featured the following:

A) a full slate of games played by 100+ D1A schools

B) A national championship game won by Alabama

C) A full set of USF football statistics, posted on www.gousfbulls.com

D) A USF Football team coached by Jeff Scott

E) A salary (albeit a slightly reduced one) paid to Jeff Scott for his coaching services in 2020

Based on these points, 2020 was in-fact year one of Jeff Scott’s tenure at USF, the season counted and his coaching record that year was 1-8

A more compelling argument (if one was so inclined to make one), would be as follows:

“I believe that Jeff Scott deserves a fourth year at USF because he inherited a program devoid of talent, with no on-field leadership, no recruiting pipeline and an abysmal general team attitude.  As a result of this chaotic status, no coach could reasonably be expected to turnaround this situation in anything less than 4 years”

Please note that I neither believe nor support this statement and if I was AD for a day, I would have fired CJS following the Cincinnati Game

If by "beyond" the argument you mean it was one of those things people needed to just agree to disagree on and not bother to bring up ..... I agree.
