FWIW here's an AAU-based analysis of the PAC-12's current situation. Historically, the PAC-12 (now PAC-9) has shown a preference for AAU institutions. Now-departed USC and UCLA were both AAU schools. Additionally, current AAU membership includes (as of today, I recognize it could change very soon):

  • Arizona
  • Arizona State
  • Cal
  • Oregon
  • Stanford
  • Utah
  • Washington

Wazzou and Oregon State are not AAU. Let's say Oregon, Washington, and Arizona eventually leave for the Big 12, leaving:

  • Arizona State
  • Cal
  • Stanford
  • Utah
  • Wazzou
  • Oregon State

Instead of working out some kind of stupid marketing deal with the ACC, the PAC-12 could just create an east-coast division consisting of at least 8 AAU members, 4 in each division. Something like this:

WEST

  • Arizona State (AAU)
  • Cal (AAU)
  • Stanford (AAU)
  • Utah (AAU)
  • Wazzou
  • Oregon State
  • SDSU
  • Air Force

EAST

  • Tulane (AAU)
  • Rice (AAU)
  • USF (AAU)
  • Buffalo (AAU)
  • Temple
  • SMU
  • Memphis
  • Navy

I don't know much about TV deals, but this 16- school conference would seem like an appealing and stable conference to me. Brings in the service academies. Certainly better than our current arrangement in the AAC. And half the membership would be AAU, which would be appealing to the snottier members (Stanford, Cal).

Just spit-balling. It would be bold and I'm not sure the leadership is there to make something like this happen.

Great news for USF if TRUE... I have learned not to get my hopes up from twitter rumors. If so we would have Prime Time coaching, number one transfer class, and already be joining the B12.

Remember Bubba The Love Sponge told USF fans Primetime was on campus and taking the job.

What I think is more likely than us in the PAC12 or ACC:

-everyone in the PAC besides Oregon State and Washington State get picked up by the Big 10 or Big 12

-everyone in the ACC besides Wake, Gtech, BC, and Duke get picked up by the Big 10, SEC, or Big 12

Those leftovers plus the top of the AAC and MWC form a “best of the rest” conference to try and separate themselves from the G5. This is where we slide in. Something like

west division: OSU, WSU, Fresno, SDSU, CSU, Boise, SMU, UNLV

east division: Gtech, BC, Wake, Duke, USF, Memphis, Tulane, Uconn

Then we would have been called up.  Oh well.

USF joining the PAC 12 would be so USF.

What does the AAC look like if we don't apply, and the PAC takes: SMU, Tulane, Memphis and ECU for an Eastern division, and the AAC fills in with FIU, Texas State, Ga State, and Marshall.

We may as well jump to the sunbelt at that point

Break it into pod scheduling too and travel disadvantage could be minimized

Pod 1: Oregon, Washington, OSU, WSU

Pod 2: Stanford, Cal, Fresno State, SDSU

Pod 3: Arizona, ASU, Utah, Boise State

Pod 4: USF, Memphis, SMU, Tulane

This still means a few trips to the west coast. I'm sure the "non-revenue sports" are super stoked about all the travel. How many trips would Baseball/Softball and the Basketball teams have to make?

No, BTLS said he was "not" taking the job. On the other hand, JP Petersen's sources told him that Deion had been on campus and that he'd likely take the job (turned out that he was just leveraging USF for more money with Colorado). Not clear whether Deion had ever actually been on campus. At least that's my recollection.

Oh man. The scenarios that I am willing to say “I can live with this” are getting more and more bleak, but I can live with this. 😂
