This talks about how idiotically political expansion is, which is one of many reasons we'll miss Selmon as we try to move up in conference and will probably help UH this round. Regardless, it's asinine and borderline nepotism...

Quote

But Baylor had one key strength: Political power. Texas’ governor at the time, Ann Richards, and Lt. Gov. Bob Bullock both had Baylor degrees. So did multiple powerful state legislators. And those leaders made it clear that UT-Austin and A&M would face dire consequences if they didn’t take Baylor and Tech with them to their new conference.

We're also omitted here, I just don't get it, ugh...

Quote

The Big 12 announced this summer that it planned to review potential additions. UH was among those expected to be considered, along with Brigham Young University, the University of Central Florida, the University of Cincinnati and others.

And, then, potentially the dagger, turns out UH may be a good TV add and shore up an important region of the state that UT may not have as covered as expected,

Quote

One positive factor has been television. Conferences make most of their money off selling the TV rights to their football games, so expansion is often guided by the goal of bringing in new viewers and markets. UH is in one of the biggest television markets in the country, but many have believed that UT-Austin is so popular in Houston that the Big 12 doesn’t need the Cougars.

UH supporters note, however, that only two of the top 10 most-watched football games in the Houston area last year were Big 12 games. UH played in two other top 10 games. The rest were played by Southeastern Conference teams — a galling thought to Longhorn fans who know their rival A&M is now a member of the SEC.

I think people know UCF more just because of the BCS bowl and somehow forget they went 0-12 last year. Shows you what one season can do even when head to head record goes to us. The Skip Holtz years really hurt. USF's endowment is almost triple, it's ranked higher in academics by services like U.S. News and Forbes, is ranked higher in research and patents (2 metrics away from preeminent status), has a higher ranked medical school and is in a larger TV market. If you write about these things for a living it's just laziness not to be aware. I just saw this the other day about our medical school.

Now all we have to do is get football back to where it was and higher. This isn't to put UCF down because they have a bright future too. It's just to point out the sloppiness of a lot of sports writers, as well as the ignorance of some fans.

East orlando university also had a home and away with Texas.

No they didn't ... UCF signed a contract for a home and away and away with Texas, just like we did.

A BCS bowl win is as good as it gets for the non-power schools, though AAC was technically a power conference its first year... I would not compare med schools either since they just opened. No comparison. Ours is awesome because we have had it open since the 70's and really focused on it.

What we need is a law school. Get some more politicians in the state government, more lawyers to sue the NCAA.

The current politicians would never let us have a law school.

Actually, if you're looking to get something done legally, what you need is for attorneys that are USF alumni to step up and run for the legislature.

Sanjay, PeT, we're looking at you. :D
