Making the Bowl games(win or lose) always resulted in a pay day $ which was a great thing for USF athletics. That is the thing that we could use...extra $$ for facilities, etc. That adds to the pain of losing seasons.

Actually, if I understand correctly from our past bowls, we barely break even in the bowl games. After transportation, 3 night stay, and buying bowl tickets (most of which go unused), there really is no profit.

You are a deal(dream) killer...Chew on this... 2017 Birmingham $2,050,000. Appears the G5 schools            (5 conferences) share $83.5 mil. in 2016-17. In the CFP era any G5 makes semi-final gets a base amount plus $6mil. All earnings/winnings  go to rev sharing divided evenly between the 5 conferences. Interesting: would appear we need to really cheer on some G5 teams even if we dont make a bowl game--we still get a payday...Man, what a Country we live in..

Yes, that’s collectively for all G5. Our average bowl payout (before expenses) within the conference is low. This is due to the fact our bowls are pretty bad. The conference uses a formula where those who went to a bowl will get more than those schools who do not (USF). Thus, bowl money is not split equally in the conference (which makes since). But because our payouts as a conference stinks the profit that is made by bowl teams is minimal at best. Obviously it’s a little better if the conference is the representative on NYD. If you want to cheer for someone, cheer for Cincy to make the playoffs. Now, that would help.

Wouldn’t it be better to not make a bowl, not pay for travel and lodging and simply cash the check, in reality CJS is a genius for taking this approach.

Is there a requirement on how many players we must send to our away games?

Ok, I'm getting the feeling that this football bowl payout monies thing might be considered OFF TOPIC.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
