Serious question.  Who’s calling the plays on defense?  I see Strong with a headset on and a play sheet when we’re on defense.

Regardless of the play calling, LB play has been the #1 issue with the defense and why we continually get gashed no matter the opponent.  To start the season, we had Magee a 5’10” 210lb converted safety and Sawtelle as the 2 starting LBs.  Sawtelle goes down and in comes a converted DE.  On Saturday I believe Reaves and #11 the true freshman got the start which may explain Magee’s attitude.  We will continue to get run on until personnel improves.  Hopefully some of the younger guys develop quickly and they bring a transfer or JUCO for next year.

We'll get recruits, I just hope it's talent and not coaching. At game #8, they still look really confused at times and that points to coaching IMO.

I was wondering just how hands-on Charlie is with this defense...what his involvement is exactly. In some of the earlier games this year, the defense was able to make 2nd half adjustments, but were not able to against UConn or Houston.

no linebackers and whose fault is that - recruiting for the wrong positions or kids leaving?

Probably BJ with strong instumental in gameplanning.

I am convinced now that until we bring in top notch coordinators we have reached a ceiling with this staff. What you see is what you have. Personnel on either side of the ball won’t matter.

What we have is a certain mindset. You had a bunch of NFL talent here last year. Still seeing the same crap.

Good enough to beat lesser competition. Stay middle of the road in this conference, bit thats yet.

Linebacker is a priorty next class...and a Juco or two.

Not sure why it is such a mess.

Taken from the gousfbulls roster.  Here’s what comes back next year at LB. Now some DEs or DBs could get moved to LB but this is as it is now.  We need help at LB!

Greg Reaves

Dwayne Boyles

Andre Polk

Jeffery Farrar

 Kierston Johnson

Randall Copeland

Antonio Grier

Nico Sawtelle

AJ Franco

Andrew Mims

Taggart and Strong share in the blame.

Even in the early days USF had a reputation of having good LBs some of which went on to the NFL.  What the hell happened?

“This is not a broken football program by any means. It just needs to be united, to get everybody on the same page, share that same vision, and really to have that standard - best is the standard.”

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
