Apparently, we sped up our tempo yesterday.. Must be why we’re 2nd in the country in plays per game this year. Yesterday was a serious stat boost in that category. 20 more than last year. But we didn't exactly play murderers row last year, either. Take FSU off our schedule and replace it with a patsy, add a few points and yards to the offense column and take a few from the defense, if you like. We had a good distribution of defensive rankings for our opponents last year. 3 in the top 40. 5 in the upper half of fbs. Temple was #3 in total defense. This year they are still tops for our opponents in defense at 65th. Also didn’t have any bottom 4 opponents last year and this year we played them all. Interesting for comparison but not apples to apples.

I'd take 2017 over 2016.

On the defensive side though we moved up from 110th last year to 17th this year. S&P takes into account efficiency, explosiveness, field position, finishing drives, and turnovers. There are also adjustments for opponent strength and garbage time. So to JTrue's point, our offense has taken a something of a step back but our defense has gotten a lot better.
