2016 Offense                      2017 Offense

512 yards/game                 502 yards/game

43.8 points/game              39.1 points/game

225 passing/game            226 passing/game

276 rushing/game             285 rushing/game

2016 Defense                  2017 Defense

482 yards/game             320 yards/game

31.6 points/game          19.9 points/game

196 rushing/game         118 yards/game

26 turnovers/15 INT      21 turnovers/17 INT

I was bored and thought it was worth taking a look at last year's stats v. this years stats. I do remember making a comment before the season that I'd be extremely happy if the offense took a small step backwards if it meant the defense was improved and I got my wish.

Yes this team is more well rounded.  Special teams is worse particularly kick covg and fg blocking though.

If all 3 phases can play A game we can beat any team in our conference.

I think you have the total offense yards per game backwards?

You'd think it wouldn't be that close.

Either way, surprised it's that close. Last year's offense seemed so much better. Also surprised to see the 2016 defense had that many turnovers..

Correct. We lost to a 10-4 Temple team last year and a probably 8-4 Houston team who would be 9-4 without their UTSA game cancellation.

Obviously have to mention the schedules aren't comparable, but interesting comparison. The offense has certainly dropped off in relation to the competition. We have been playing some of the worst defenses in FBS. After we play Tulsa we will have played the 4 worst defenses statistically in the FBS. Have only played 1 team in the top half of FBS defensively (Temple at 65).

Of course. But we didn't exactly play murderers row last year, either. Take FSU off our schedule and replace it with a patsy, add a few points and yards to the offense column and take a few from the defense, if you like.

We are supposed to score more than last year with our defense improvement but we play slow tempo.. Apparently, we sped up our tempo yesterday..

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
