CJL-era penalties were from trying too hard, our current plethora seems to from not trying hard enough...

No no no. False starts are awful penalties. Mental errors. But not effort related. 

 

The offense seems awful undisciplined. The D had a game like that and it got fixed fast. Offense has had a couple now, let's see

Anyway, to finish the thought, give me "errors of COmmission" over "errors of Ommission" every day and twice on Saturdays.

I would MUCH rather have a late hit than a false start.

I'd rather have a false start. False start is and offensive problem (5yds). Which means you have the ball and are trying to score. Late hit is a defensive problem in most cases. 15yds is the price of that yellow flag. Which means you just made a big play for the other team.
