Yes Taggart had the same problem. If he wasn't on the hot seat he'd still be running a power run offense. It took Taggart 2 years to realize it didnt work...

It's funny that Taggart is known for an offense he was so reluctant to try. Hopefully Strong and Gilbert realize what changes need to be made.

Like you said, I still think this offense can be special if they stop playing conservative.

That is the million dollar question - how many games does it take CCS to realize that due to our recruiting area and pecking order in college football, we are a spread team

It took Willie two and a half years to get it

Skippie never understood it

Hopefully, CCS gets it going into his third game

Please dont think that we have opened the playbook by any stretch of the imagination. Ill give you an example, DJ is a spread RB, he is not a MM type pound it up the middle back. We have yet to run DJ in spread formation or run around the tackles....I'm guessing, and I'll admit I have no proof, but i'm guessing (hoping?) that changes next week. I think we see a different offense next week.

The only difference with that play and what we've seen so far is the color of the jerseys.

When DJ runs, it's primarily up the middle with every coach he's played for. MM was the spread RB, he was the beat-you-every-time-in-isolation guy that could also get a couple of short yards when he needed to. DJ and Tice are more power guys, with DJ also being an excellent screen/dump-off receiver.

Maybe Gilbert was going vanilla until he got in to conference play.

Wow!  Run, run, pass.  Run, run pass.  I've seen that before!

The offense we've seen through 2 games is the offense we'll see all season.  Power run up the middle and go routes.

Even the awesome run for a TD by DJ against SJSU was a called power run up the middle that was stuffed that he broke outside.  That play was all on DJ and McCants not stellar play calling.
