Close, but going up 4-0 when we were in a BCS conference and they weren't didn't really constitute a rivalry.  That's like saying we're rivals with UF and FSU.  It's a rivalry now only because we're on an equal playing field in the same conference, which certainly isn't by our design, but can be best summed by, "it is what it is."

I like that for a rivalry series: The worlds largest backyard it is what it is game.

Technically SR 582 and SR 434.

I prefer the battle of the 28th Parallel, you know, just to avoid any confusion.

I'm a 417 elitist

Way less stressful drive than 408 to I4

I know the conversation is "old hat" but regardless of conference affiliation, I have always hated them.  I wanted to hate UF, FSU, and Miami, but I never really did, despite my best attempts and I am sure their fans feel the same.  I did not have to try to hate Ucf, it is just a thing.  Even with FSU coming to town, you don't hear about animosity or other rivalry-ish words.

Rivalry does not equal hate.

Would you prefer I use a softer tone?  Dislike perhaps?

A concept still not grasped by some. If it did, I'd have been pushing the War on I-75 for decades..

UcF is our little brother.

I like to think of them as an ugly sister.

I coached for YEARS against a "rival" team, but had the utmost respect for the team and their coach.  I don't think dislike was ever a part of the rivalry.  Now, some believe you have to dislike for it to be a rivalry.  My experience was it consisted more of a history of playing competitive games against each other. I guess in absence of that, dislike suffices.

I think it would be better put "hate does not equal rivalry."

I hate Miami, but we're not rivals.

UCF has always been on our jock ever since we got selected for the BE and they didn't.  They've slashed tires, threatened our QB, etc. and that's why most of us hate them - pretty much because most of their fans are pure trash.  Not because we had some rivalry back then.

I wonder what the result would be if you polled 100 Alabama and Auburn fans and asked them to choose which word, respect or hate, would best describe their feelings toward each other.  I doubt very much that many would choose respect over hate.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

Last I checked the scoreboard doesn't have a spot for current bank balance on it.
