valdez-Scantling, DJ and Harris were all cramps. Mack said he is fine.

I don't remember any of the Towson players getting helped off the field because of cramps.

In a real game this could be a huge difference.

I dunno, sometimes you take these guys out when their gassed just because of the opponent. If consitioning becomes an issue then that's a real problem. Nice to see Jordan Reed and Deangelo Antoine get some reps too.

BETHEL SIDELINED: OG Glen Bethel, a heralded junior college transfer initially projected to start right away for USF, remains sidelined with an eligibility issue, the Tampa Bay Times has learned.

Taggart would only say Monday that Bethel is "going through some things" that he hopes to know more about soon. Bethel didn't suit up for Saturday night's game.

With Bethel out of the rotation, senior Dominique Threatt and junior Jeremi Hall started at guard against Towson, with sophomore Michael Smith and redshirt freshman Brooks Larkin lining up with the second team.

2015 Stats: Larkin redshirted last year.

Position on Depth Chart: Larkin is listed as the backup center following spring practice.

How He Came To USF: Brooks played at a familiar high school -- Bradenton Manatee, the same school Willie Taggart attended. He featured on two Hurricanes teams that went deep in the state playoffs. In 2012 they reached the Class 7A state semifinals, then made it to the regional semifinals in Class 8A in 2013.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
