Had a brief conversation with Coach earlier in the year and he seemed pretty happy here, giving weather as a huge plus, so it's no surprise he ended up somewhere kind of similar in climate. One thing mentioned was the lack of lighting for our courts and the limits that puts on scheduling and hosted tournaments. There was/is a drive to get those lights but don't know where that stands. As with most decisions like this, have to assume there were a number of factors that went into decision but I'd have to agree that $$ was probably the attention getter, having to offer at least 5% more to offset the AZ state income tax. Plus, considering that he was the 2nd choice for the position, with the first choice being the Michigan hc who took job but then changed mind, have to figure there was some serious money to get initially get him out of Ann Arbor. The clincher would have been the ASU commitment to tennis that USF just doesn't have right now. Just compare the ASU current tennis complex that they'll be leaving for a new one, to ours. Their's has lights and everything. One thing this does is just reinforce what a godsend Eriksen has been for USF, whose facilities were worse than tennis for most of his tenure here.

"Substantially higher" is subjective, but with P5 money, and due to the fact they had just lured Michigan's coach (he reneged later), they weren't talking peanuts. I'm sure ASU could double his salary and it still wouldn't be a drop in the bucket compared to their revenue.

Take into account Florida's low cost of living and no state income tax, money wasn't the driving force in his decision. But if it turns out they did double his pay, good for him and sucks for us. Looks like Hill was making $100,000 and Steinberg (Michigan guy who reneged after a week) is making $160,000. So ASU is turning to Hill to bring back a program dropped for financial reasons in 2008 but reinstated after Vice President for Athletics Ray Anderson donated $1 million and Adidas kicked in $4 million. ASU men's tennis will begin play in 2017-18. Link ASU won't even compete in Tennis this next school year....
