  1. In fairness, I saw some of the same issues I saw with our offense. His offense works because he's got the players to run it, with a much better effort level than our team, but Harbaugh is a good coach, certainly. , I can't count the number of times i saw Kap not being able to get the play in on time. Or his team's inability to handle the pass rush at times. It may just be a factor of the "power coast" offense, as it's called.
  2. Murphy was there four years, didn't do anything under Meyer, wasn't much of a player under Muschamp, and he was playing in a system that favored him. Guy was a 3 star athlete coming out of HS. I'd bring him in for competition, but truthfully, I can't say he's much better than Bench was this year. I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem likely.
  3. If Vincent Jackson's right, I'll find a permissible benefit for him if one exists. But you're surely right...Jackson goes to Jesuit in Tampa. Yearby and Cook are at Central in Miami. I sincerely doubt he has much if any knowledge of their decisions.
  4. yes because they are soley the reason USF is not a storied football program with tons of history and money--- give it a rest amen So their jobs should be safe if they are not solely responsible for crummy consequences of mismanagement? LOL at the coddling of these high-powered, highly paid leaders. Doug and Judy were the people in charge when USF was gifted the opportunity to run with the big dogs in the BE. That was the hand they were dealt. . . . . . . did we make the most of it?. . . . . . . I think not. As it stands today, we're outhustled, out-fund raised, outspent, out-facilitied, and outperformed by UCF Athletics, and they were mired in probation and a wrongful death lawsuit while USF basked in the BE. . . . . that makes me want to ask Doug and Judy if we were cruising on autopilot during that time, because it sure looks that way. Serious question, I wonder if UCF already has the ECU and Tulane banners flying in its (new) arena. You can see ours when the (yet to be renamed) Sundome's lights are working properly. Trivial maybe, also a sign our leadership is taking relegation from the BE laying down. BTW, you know you got a problem when the only defenses for doug's job are (1) he's retiring soon anyway and/or (2) he's not solely responsible. yeah-- that is exactly what I said and meant you base USF's equal footing on barely making it into a devastated Big East-- which was openly mocked during it's entire existence. There is a ton more to it than being a wet behind the ears newcomer to the FBS ranks. Sure-- some of the schools in a somewhat similar situation of joining the BE have weaseled their way into some of the P5. But look at those schools-- long histories, huge fan and donor bases, large war chests--- things USF won't have no matter WHO is running the show for decades. You can pis and moan about it all you want but Judy and Doug are not responsible for what a board decided back in 1960 and held onto for 35 years. But hey-- we all know what your real agenda is here anyway-- let's fire everyone and point the finger of blame on them because they are terrible people. It is such a bunch of horse crap. The bottom line is that USF has been behind all the P5 type of schools for several decades. Blaming a handful of administrative leaders for this situation is ass backwards. I am in no way an apologist for any of the admin or whoever at USF- they haven't been perfect by any means-- but you cannot simply blame them for things that take decades to turn around. Your argument is total BS-- you compare us to UCF as if we are supposed to be better than them simply because we are USF. You do realize they have had football about 20 years longer than us, right? I suppose that doesn't matter in your amazingly blind evaluation of the situation. And yet our teams were valued enough to pull away Pitt, Syracuse (historically strong schools), WVU and Louisville (currently strong schools with some tradition), and Rutgers (all about that academia and another B1G doormat) to cripple the conference. Do you seriously believe that if we hadn't continued to produce results like 2006 and 2007 that we wouldn't have gotten into the Big 12 or the ACC if FSU or Miami left? Get real. For all we know the Big 12 is happily courting UCF over in Orlando right now, because they've managed to develop a quality program that will continue to grow given the opportunity. They took one year in a BCS conference, and managed to smack down not only the best teams formerly from C-USA, but also our premiere teams over the years in Louisville and Rutgers. We'll never know how they would have done against Syracuse or Pitt, but based on their results last year neither the Orange or the Panthers would have been able to do a dang thing. I don't blame Judy and Doug for this entirely, but I do blame them for some lack of foresight. You don't hand a football coach coming off a losing season a huge new contract with a 2.5M USD buyout. At best you give him an extra year to protect his recruiting, then fire him if he doesn't pan out. Add on the fact that you could make the case that Stan Heath is perhaps the only quality coach Woolard has hired. Holtz wasn't the man, and our Olympic sports don't matter in the revenue equation. In return, the students have deserted the program that only five years ago was putting huge crowds in the stadium and don't give a whit about where their student fees are going-DOWN the DRAIN. Hell, I even get the massive capital improvements-we needed an update and it would look attractive to a new conference, even though we don't have an OCS, you could show that we're committed to presenting a high quality image to the country. If the basketball gets on a tourney run this year, a lot of people are going to see that beautiful new Sun Dome on TV-and we'd better hope it's full. Barring a major turnaround by Bulls football next year, we are going to be on the outside looking in for the next few years...all I can hope for is that UCF doesn't leave. That could well be the death blow for this program.
  5. If the losses haven't shaken Reagan, than the Hogs won't either. We'll probably have to work to keep him for sure, but as long as we keep talking, Reagan is ours. Finding myself seriously impressed by Taggart's recruiting prowess. How do you pull a guy from SEC country and hold onto him even after such a rough season?
  6. I believe it is either that or Busch Gardens will want to sponsor the OCS and have a roller coaster set up on USF campus. I wonder if the BULLS could see the dolphin tank more than 11 times It's more for the other teams than us. Ha! True, but imagine the half time shows! We'll sell out just on the novelty of having our cheerleaders do tricks with dolphins!
  7. OU? Ouch. I could see us pulling him away from Florida because of the scheme we run being better suited to OTs. But OU? They run a very similar scheme and just keep sending linemen to the pros. If Taggart pulls Ward away from the Schooners I'll be very impressed.
  8. So, is it true Sea World has agreed to fund an OCS for us if we agree to rename the team the USF Orcas and have a dolphin touch tank in the end zone?
  9. He has shown he can move the offense better than those guys, but he definitely needs to protect the ball better. We have bronson, clerveaux, and maybe porter for wr plus a better blocking TE so far in our next class. So those "resources" are on the way Statistically, he has shown that whatever slight bit of yardage he gets more than the other guys (about 15-20 yards per game) he pisses away with a turnover. You may think he moved the offense better, but in the end he had 100 more yards passing on the season, more picks, less TDs. He also kept us in games against Houston and UCF which had much better teams than we do. What did Eveld and Bench do with their chances against Miami and Louisville?
  10. ECU is probably thinking "their stadium is half empty, are they all just sitting home voting for Rocky and that's why no one shows up to the games?"
  11. That's actually quite a beautiful stadium as well. I could go for something like that, but how much would it run us? Gotta talk to Victor Crist again...
  12. Rutgers is a train wreck. We've at least competed in our last several games. Rutgers has just outright gotten blown out. I think Flood is gone after this season. I won't say we'll win in a blow out, but I do think we can beat Rutgers with ease if our curse against them doesn't come into play.
  13. Huge luck there. And then we lose a timeout. This stadium is going to be loud all night. Get with it Mike!
  14. Kevin Patrick was a worthy coach as well-helped us have 38 sacks in 2011 in what was probably our best year for pass rush. Wonder if Taggart would have him back.
  15. While you're busy kicking the offense for another week the defense has held a red hot offense to 3 points...
  16. I'll be there. I'm a Bull, no matter the record and the result. I just hope we can send the seniors out in Green and Gold classic. Can you believe that some of these guys were the last ones to wear the green and gold under Leavitt? Seems like forever...
  17. I thought about this all the way home after the loss. Here are my thoughts.. It's clear that the defense is okay. The special teams is fantastic. They had some parts to play in tonight's loss, but not all of it. Taggart's offensive isn't developing, and it's becoming clearer and clearer to me that there are a ton of problems. 1. Taggart has had more and more of his players in the line up in recent games. Lawrence Martin is one of these players. Mike White is another one. Datvis has played better in recent weeks to be certain, and in certain instances Shaw is getting back to his old self. But these players are supposed to be WINNING football games at this point. Memphis is not Louisville or Houston. We had plenty of opportunities to take control of this game, especially in the first half, and we just aren't doing it. This was a problem early this year. I remember two or three plays against Michigan State where we could have taken control of the game. Guess what? we didn't. Same thing against FAU. Same thing against Memphis tonight. The WILL to WIN is not always there. If it had been, we could have easily been up 13-6, possibly more, at the end of the first half. The first White interception was one that I was disappointed by. He had time and his feet were set, so he should have been able to throw an accurate ball (that would have likely been a TD), but instead he underthrew it. INT. 2. The verbiage needs to be simplified. I get that Taggart likes running his motions. But how do you expect to get the motions working if you barely have enough time to get the play off? We all saw it, especially in the second half. We'd break the huddle with like 12 seconds on the playclock, at times less. There was some improvement from the game against Houston, but it clearly wasn't enough to get the offense going. 3. The offense doesn't have the physicality that they ought to be developing at this time. By this point in the season, Taggart should have at least been able to impose his mindset. Why does it seem like our offensive line is the only unit that hasn't seen any significant turnover, despite its difficulties? If you're going in from 2nd and one on the goal line, you need to go and BLOW the defense off the line. Period. 1 yard should not seem like a labor of love. 2 plays prior, Chris Dunkley needed to stay in bounds and smack down the CB. I don't know that he would have gotten into the end zone, but it would have sent a message to the Memphis defense. 4. Darius Tice needs to work on his footwork, big time. I get that you are going to get hit on this game. But there were occasions tonight that the line opened holes and he didn't take advantage of them because of his bad footwork. It was as if at times he was afraid of taking contact. 5. All in all, this is going to be a very rough offseason. I don't know how we're going to hold some of the members of our recruiting class now.
  18. So I come home this evening and I go to check on my grandmother. She's still awake, but she's clearly very tired. But a good omen? She has her hand clenched in a "horns up" sign. She's got dementia and doesn't even know who the USF Bulls are, yet she's on our side. My grandmother was a great physician in her day. Let's go cheer our Bulls to a win for her shall we?
  19. Surprise, surprise, smazza gets it wrong again. Maybe you forgot we had 0 receivers when Leavitt "left". The offense was bad, which was the only thing Skip did relatively well. We had Sterling Griffin, AJ Love, Dontavia Bogan, Evan Landi ... Carlton Mitchell left for the draft early, so don't see how that's his fault. Care to try again? You don't see how that's his fault? Leavitt routinely had four and five wide receivers in the game. But when he left there were four or five receivers on scholarship. That is like having only one scholarship QB, oh wait we had that too. Landi was a TE forced to play WR because we had no WRs. With us running the spread as much as we did under Leavitt, we should have had a minimum of 15 WRs on scholarship at all times. Face reality, he was a pretty good coach at getting his players ready to play but his recruiting left a lot to be desired in the later years. Yes and? You talk about scholarship QBs. Leavitt went into 2009 with Grothe as the starter and Daniels as the heir apparent. yes, Grothe got injured and Daniels came in as the starter, but that happens in football games. he also had Brion Carnes in the pipeline as his next spread QB for when Daniels left (or as a transitional Qb for another top recruit). I believe that Carnes would likely have started here or at least been a top backup-he was a good QB from a good program, and got a very raw deal at Nebraska. Not only that, remember he brought in a top 25 recruiting class in 2009-that same class that two years later looked great under Holtz except for their inability to win football games (something I put a lot on Holtz, who doesn't know how to win). You think Leavitt would have done badly in 2011? We can't judge since we don't know, but if he's putting that top 25 class on the field for three years, you better believe we're getting better all around and good classes would have continued to come into the program. We suffered a lot of injuries in 2008 and 2009, and the backups were still working on getting up to BCS quality at the time. Leavitt is a legitimate football coach. If he gets a top 25 class ready to play, you best believe they're going to be very good.
  20. I wouldnt consider memphis bad competition. Especially defensively. Theyve been in every game this year. Anybody expecting a rout will be thoroughly disappointed. And if a rout happens, i will be wrong Agreed, and Memphis has an excellent defense. I give White a lot of credit for playing well against Houston, but Memphis will be a challenging opponent for us. If we rout them, then you start to wonder if this team has what it takes to go end the year on a winning streak and go bowling.
  21. That was one thing that did confuse me. Despite White's success against the pass defense, the UH defense never backed up. Perhaps they knew we were in a passing mode and that's why they just kept coming after the passer.
  22. If White plays like he did on Thursday than Memphis, SMU, and Rutgers are all winnable games. That gets us to five wins, which is much better than we could have hoped for coming in at 0-4. If we go to Orlando and play our best ball...I wouldn't underrate the idea of us going bowling. However, that's going to require MAJOR improvements in defensive play. This defense didn't play badly against Louisville, but the secondary really isn't developing at the rate I'd hoped seeing them come in against Houston. Cooper has his work cut out for him. The line is going to have to play like the second coming of FSU 2009 for us to have a chance at shutting down their offensive. Bortles might be the second best QB in the AAC and if you can't force sacks and turnovers on him, it'll be hard to win.
