Another Cinci based writer; still a bit butt hurt they lost to single worst team to be fielded by USF

Harsh,  but there are a lot of things that the guy missed. 

 

Lamar Robbins and Nate Godwin were good players for us and they will get better under Ron Cooper's tutelage. Inexperienced secondary? Nice of them to say, but that doesn't mean it's bad. 

 

We have a crowded backfield of good players. Pierre obviously had a great spring, and with Mack, Johnson, and Tice in the fold it'll be a good group. Keep an  eye out for Swanson to get some carries-we saw this in the spring and it looked pretty nice. 

 

Offensive line-our line got much stronger this offseason. Losing Straub for being a moron hurts, but it's my hope that the new OL coach will keep things going. The right techniques have been taught, now it's a matter of continuing to teach plus great motivation to get stronger. We don't know where this OL compares to most OLs, but even moving up to average is a step in the right direction. 

 

Defensively is where I agree with the writer. The DL didn't look very impressive in spring and I still don't know how the staff is planning to replace Lattimore. To put it simply, the QB and MLB are still the two biggest question marks on this team because we haven't seen them in live game action.

Perfectly fair assessment. Until we prove otherwise, people will view us as a 3 win team this season.

Only thing that bothered me was that he said we will barely beat tulsa. C'mon man. Tulsa is a mess

Well, it'll give us something to tweak the guy on when we win more than 3 games.  I didn't see much that I could robustly argue.  We've underachieved and we're young.  Losing record the last 3 season.  Time to turn up.

Ending the season with 5 straight losses won't be acceptable. Taggart will be on hot seat. Don't think things will be that bad.

If we can cut down on a large number of mistakes this year, that should bode well for us.  Some of those games, like UCF and Houston, could have been won with a few less mistakes.
