Actually, we can blame Holtz for some of this... these are his players that are starting, after all.  This isn't a case where a coach left a winning program for a better program (like Brian Kelly leaving Cincy for Notre Dame).

No, Holtz drove the program into the ground and left us with too many players who either don't have talent -- or don't have the mental toughness to play a game when it's not handed to them.

Holtz may have driven this team into the ground. But this was a team that looked far worse than it did at the end of last year. We may have stunk last year, but us stinking, was losing by 10-20 points to Big East schools. We also won our opener by 21 points, took one of the best teams in the country to the final minute, and had FSU on their heels in the second half.

I'm not glamorizing our season last year, but the Holtz coached team last year looked WAY better than the one we saw last night. Coach Taggart has had 8 months to prepare for this, and he executes on of the worst performances in the history of college football.

Not completely disagreeing with you, but just something to consider that Holtz had the last of Leavitt's players last year. Taggart has just his freshmem and Holtz's team.

Unfortunately for Taggart, he now has to go to Michigan to take on Michigan State on Saturday and face back-to-back losses. No matter what he says about fixing things and finding the way to win, they are still going to lose again. He does not even have a chance to right the ship by starting Eveld and reviewing the mistakes, we will still lose vs. Michigan State just because they are the better team.  Now, he will have to start the season 0-2. There are no excuses for last night's loss. 1-1 was expected, but 0-2 is just bad.  However, in USF fashion, we may go ahead and pull off the win at Michigan State, only to build hope and call it one of USF's great wins against big-name schools and then LOSE to FAU the following week.  That's how we do it at USF.  Or...we just lose by 4 touchdowns to MSU, it can go either way really.  :guinness:  :slapmax:  :GoBulls:

While both would be losses, not all losses are the same.  Loosing to a superior team when you've left it all out on the field is one thing, what we experienced last night was something completely different.

I agree that it's somewhat different. But still, he doesn't even have the chance to come out the next week after yesterday and come back with a win to boost morale and confidence. Having played sports in high school, I never felt any sense of accomplishment in losing to a good team. But, I certainly felt a lot of regret and embarrassment losing to the team we should beat.

Deters. -- sorry you are wrong. Our defense was terrible. If you give up 188 yds rushing in first half don't cry about offense. Our team has so many issues right now and it is not quick fix. D tackles did not do job. D ends did not perform and offense was not acceptable. Plz don't blame just offense as defense sucked. 53 PTs is embarrasing

The players who go to an FCS football program usually go there for a reason: A football program like USF didn't want them because they aren't good enough for the big leagues.  Well, those players who should be of a lesser caliber than our players, sure put a beating on us.  Always the hardest to lose to players you're supposedly better than on paper. Some times people under-perform and others over-perform. Guess all we can do now is move on to week 3 and hope we aren't embarrassed again to an FAU team that doesn't typically win many games and just lost 34-6 to UM.

If I were on the defense, I'd even feel embarrassed giving up 53 points to Alabama. Good thing I'm only a spectator.

I'm wrong? Interesting, because you don't even know how many yards they rushed for in the first half. It was actually a net of 89, not 188.

How is the defenses fault for going 3 & out multiple times or drives of only 4 or 5 plays, throwing 2 INT's, fumbling at your 7, going 3-13 on 3rd down, being outgained by 10 minutes in TOP and allowing 7 McNeese drives to start in your own territory?

You clearly don't understand the importance of all those statistics and how they work severly against a defense. McNeese had 64 total yards in the first quarter, only 19 rushing. The defense was playing fine until the offense started ******** the bed with turnovers and the constant short 3-5 play drives leaving the defense in short field situations putting too much strain on them.

Sorry deters I was only going by what was shown on scoreboard at game. Still stats still suck as I just looked at them. Good defensive teams overcome weak defenses at times. We game up 53 PTs. Plz stop thinking it is just qb. Our defensive was giving up big holes all night against second tier college. Good teams overcome poor offense and don't give excuses. Lets face it both sides of ball stink right now

Did you think this team was fine on both sides of the ball? It was a stretch to even predict 6 wins even with our poor schedule. This team is in major rebuild mode. The defense is really young. They will improve. Last night was a nightmare for such a young defense and the offense really let them down.

QB - No quality starter

RB - Shaw looked good, but what about his backups?

WR - Only 1 or 2 true starters, poor depth, young and inexperience

TE - 2 good players, not enough involvement last night

OL - only bright thing on offense

DE - Talent and depth, but Lynch hasn't played since 2011, Giddins still not 100%, Forte didn't play, Mims was solid but the rest are young and inexperienced.

DT - Multiple good players and depth but some are young with no game time. Need to work on gap discipline.

LB - 1 returning starter. 2 new starters without much experience. no depth.

CB - worst position outside of QB. 2 new starters. Depth is horrid and game experience is almost non existent.

S - 2 quality starters, depth isn't good. no experienced backups to the starters.
