Said he's going to LA Tech. Bivins said he left because he doesn't like the new coaching staff. Posted it in another thread to be merged into this one.

That's not what he said .... even in the awesome translation .... Very well could have been a similar situation to the Robinson High offensive lineman that was given a not so subtle message. He could stay but there are some **** fine receivers ahead of you already on the depth chart.

So if I ask you why you're leaving, and your answer is "the coaches", you're thinking its a depth scenario? No way.

Sterling Griffin is a starting receiver. Kid is finally healthy and ready to rock, now he follows Holtz to LA Tech? No way he's not lined up with Freakshow and D'vo by fall if he stayed. This kid isn't some walk-on or commit with no other offers.

I'm saying it could be, could also be he didn't like the coaches but he did not say that ....

I do not see what all the doom and gloom is about. Yes he had good hands but we also have some three star receivers that were not getting anytime.  I think you see Deonte Welch and Ruben GOnzalez step up. I really like GOnzalez and feel like he was not given a chance because he was not as fast as the other guys.  I also think that we will  using a lot of I-Formation that wil only call for two receivers at a time. So depth at this position is not a need it once was.  Sterling was a slot receiver which is not set Coach T will be using a lot.

He had professional abilities before his injuries. Shame, but I don't know how much he would have anymore. Hope he does well at Louisiana Tech. Still a USF grad.

Willie's interview this week was talking about how he was disappointed with the progress being made by the players.

Willie's interview said no such thing, unless you read a different interview.  Willie said he the team wasn't as fit as he expected when he got here, likes the progress he's seen since he got here.

Progress was a poor choice to paraphrase with. He was talking more about where we are right now and where he wants to be. Wish I had the article in front of me still to quote specifically. You got it it? Link us up.

I'm thinking your quoting GA. Thats not where I was pulling from, but I see what you are saying he said

Asked about his team speed on both sides of the ball: "Um ... we're getting there. (Laughter). We have some guys in spots. As a total overall team speed, we're not necessarily where I'd like to be. We're not bad. We're not bad. We've got some good players. Those players have to work really hard to show they are good players. They've got to get back and remember when they were good players, back in high school. They thought they were the best thing since sliced bread. We need them to get back to doing it that way, and working that way and producing on the football field. Speed kills. Speed makes a difference. Being smart and tough makes a big difference, too.

I see where you are going with that.  My concern was that you were implying the guys that are there aren't working hard, and from all the quotes coming out it sounds like the guys are working very hard.

Translated for Bausfkid

Squire Bone: Good sir, how are you? I hope all is well. I write to you to inquire about our mutual friend, Sire Griffin.

Duke Bivins: Our good friend Sterling is no longer with us for he has transferred to Louisiana Technical University.

Squire Bone: Good heavens! Oh lamentable day. If it is not too bold to ask, what occurred that would cause such a decision? He indubitably does not want to find himself subject to rules regarding intra-division transfers, does he? He assuredly would have to forgo a season of playing handegg!

Page KRock: Lords Bone and Bivins, Sire Griffin would not have to forgo a season of play as he will be graduating this summer; he will be immediately available for Louisiana Technical University, pip pip.

Duke Bivins: Squire Bone, Sire Griffin expressed that the coaching staff was his reason for making the decision.

Instant favorite. Well done. Handegg! LMAO.

Sterling Griffin walks out of USF as a graduate and he's sacrificed a lot for this football program. He deserves benefit of the doubt as opposed to all of this speculation that he's leaving the program because he doesn't want to work hard and such. When you're a graduate, you have a choice. Nobody has even explored the graduate school angle of all of this. Perhaps his academic interests don't match very well with what USF has to offer in their post-grad programs? The other thing is, if he transfers to Louisiana Tech to re-unite with Holtz then so what? If it's about "coaching staff" as alluded to in the twitter conversation then it's probably more positive ("I want to be with Holtz") than negative ("I don't like Willie T"). That's fine. He's a graduate and he's given a lot to this program and he deserves that choice.

It does impact the South Florida receivers unit though. He was the most consistent and accomplished receiver on the unit. Andre Davis and D'Vario Montgomery have tremendous potential, D'Vario being a guy that I have isolated as a potential NFL guy for over a year now. And Sean Price has a lot of potential as well. They will get increased workloads. However, the reliability and consistency factor might not be there with those guys...so this is going to hurt. Griffin himself had NFL potential. One of the very few people that do what I do, whose opinions I respect enough to cite in arguments as a reason people should like or dislike a player, has Griffin amongst his top 9 senior wide receivers in the 2nd tier after Cody Hoffman and Jordan Matthews. Again, I don't usually cite colleagues as reasons you should like or dislike players. I've done enough that I think I deserve the ability to form and state my own opinions on players rather than parrot others' opinions. And I mostly encourage people I discuss with to watch players and form their own opinions as well. That's why you'll rarely see me playing the "Well Mel Kiper thinks this guy ..." card. But this one colleague is one of the few exceptions, because he's got tremendous work ethic and tremendous insight. And hardly anyone knows about him.

Well CK, it seems I have found another place where we will both be posting. Hello.

I agree that Griffin will be missed. Yet, until we see exactly how this new offense will look, I think it is too early to decide if we are thin or not at WR. Losing talented players always hurts and thus Griffin will be missed but if the new scheme only calls for two WR's then we should be all right.
