this is a legal, logistical and ethical nightmare on all levels.

u do not play college sports to get paid. u play college sports because u love the game and/or it can get u a free education and some pretty sweet perks (healthcare, room & board, travel, cheerleader ass, etc.) for an exclusive few, it can lead to a million dollar pro career.

giving student athletes a paycheck at taxpayer expense is an obscenity. stop the foolishness.

so a free college education, room and board for 4+ years, free state of the art health care, and extensive on the job training and potential job placement is not enough?

That just a tiny slice of the pie. Hell no its not enough.

And what about the programs that barely make enough money to stay afloat now? Not offer the sports that pay?

There's not a massive economy central to those sports. There arent multi billion dollar TV deals, and bowl sponsorships with the other sports. These kids are being taken to the cleaners and treated like commodities. The fact that they aren't paid is utter ********.

im sorry, who forced them to play the game?

USF can't afford to pay it's players. Those advocating for the minor league option are essentially advocating USF shutting down the football program in their "fair" scenario.

No way I would watch this. The players would have no relationship (I am assuming they would not be students) with USF and there would be zero pride for me if they won. Indeed, I would go back to watching the NFL which is what I did before USF had football.

I agree...If/when they start paying the players they will not see another dime of my money. I wouldn't go back to watching the NFL. Edited by mviusa

BINGO

They CHOOSE to play, thereby getting a FREE education, tutorship, elite training, medical, etc, etc... so they can prove themselves NFL worthy.

They then can make MILLIONS  in the NFL, never having to pay back or care about us who paid for their path via tuition (as 'regular' students of their university) and as tax payers.

You don't have to play college football to play in the NFL.  As long as you get a college degree, you can try out.  Even if you graduate early.

If these kids feel like they are taken advantage of... Fine.  Get good grades to get an academic scholarship (good luck to a good portion of them without the tutorships... oh and I guess you can forget those N. Carolina type classes for athletes.) Train while attending college (hey, some of us worked full time while going to  college.)  Then try out once you graduate.

...Simple, right?

Don't 90+% of athletic departments lose money?

Would be interesting to see the correlation between those advocating for this nonsense and whether they voted for Obama...

For some, there will never be enough entitlement for them to be happy and it's always someone elses job to make it be.

If they don't like the system, then go to college and get a job like everyone else.  It's like guys ******** about the effects of football while collecting tens of millions of dollars.  No one forced you to do it?  That's why it pays MILLIONS.  If you don't want the effects of football, then go earn the $30-40k you likely would've earned had you not played football.

People need to start owning their decisions!  It's not my job or anyone elses to finance your lifestyle.

This goes well beyond schools. You guys forget companies who make billions on merchandising. They are in the mix too because all they have to do is pay a licensing fee and then make as many Matt Grothe or whomever's number jersey that are selling they want. Same with EA Sports and their college football and basketball games along with other companies like 2k. Its not just the schools making vast sums.

Have you heard about Ed O'Bannon's lawsuit against the NCAA? Are you
wondering what the hell it's about? An actual lawyer is here to explain
everything

.

Last week we found out that NCAA investigators were probably guilty of obstruction of justice. Then this week a judge ruled that a class action lawsuit against the NCAA led by Ed O'Bannon can proceed. The O'Bannon lawsuit is pretty convoluted, but it could help further erode the NCAA's power...

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
