Here was from four days ago...

"From an effort, competitive standpoint it was the type of performance we need if we’re going to turn this program around from where we are at the midseason point," Holtz said. "But we have to continue to get better. … It was a great measuring stick for us and I think we learned a lot about ourselves."

ncf_u_skipholtz_cmg_300.jpgKim Klement/US PRESSWIRE"This football team has talent," Skip Holtz said. "They're competing their tails off."

What did he learn about this team?

"Just the way that they went out and played," Holtz said. "We talk about that passion all the time and to see them go out and play with that type of passion ... I thought we were crisper. We were sharper, and if we can learn to take that same mind-set week in and week out, we have a chance to potentially reach our potential. But we can’t go out and play to the level of competition. We can’t go out there and play to the size of the crowd. We can’t go out there and play to the opponent. We have to play for each other at that level. This football team has talent. They’re competing their tails off. But I was really impressed with the overall atmosphere and energy of this football team."

Didn't the defense bail out the offense on BJ's fumble? Just going on memory, didn't we stop them and the doinked the FG on that fumble? That fumble didn't hurt us.

Their FG before halftime was because we couldn't sustain a drive to closeout the half (again) and the defense couldn't stop their offense enough to not allow a FG attempt on the last play (again).

Psssssst Skip. Maybe if your DC could call some defensive plays that doesn't allow Temple to run 8 plays in 1:27 after starting inside their own 15 they don't get to try a half ending FG.

If he thinks that was a great game you see what standards the players are being held to.

"For me, I never considered it that way (as a stepping stone), honestly. When I was offered the head job at South Florida, and I'm sincere about this, I never thought I would ever go anywhere."

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
