Yeah I hate to be old school so much, but Kravitz was good too, as was McCarney. Commonality was toughness, hard as nails head coach with a defensive background.

I don't think I equate a 2-point change in average scoring defense with going from 14-14 to 7-15 ... would think there are other areas where there's been a more significant dropoff. Are those Big East-only stats or for entire season? Sometimes can see a big difference between the two ... good thinking, though.

Agreed 100%. Me thinks it's an offense problem.

The numbers are a bit skewed. In 2009 and 2011 we allowed around 28 ppg. In 2010 it was around 18. Am sure yards correlates to this also.

I think to make a truly accurate assessment you need to dig deeper and analyze special teams effectiveness and especially average opponent starting field position.

How many times did we give the other teams a short field?

If you are looking at wins and losses, yardage allowed could be skewed if the other team continually has great field position.

Hard for me to believe no one is giving Coach Leavitt any credit in this thread whatsoever.

Yep, Wally was good, but I think almost any DC would have been good (or fired) with Leavitt. He was intent on having a solid defensive unit.

Holtz is definitely more concerned with offense, but, Fitch isn't getting it done. If one of Leavitt's DC's had under performed for this long, he would have been out.

McCarney was great but he was never our defensive coordinator. He was here for one year under Burnham

Leavitt is also the coach of the best LB unit in the NFL. Probably won't be long before Leavitt is a DC in the NFL

14-14 to 7-15 .... both stink... lots of underachieving in big east play regardless.

such bad numbers
