why did he wait for his senior year to do this? He could have been a weapon last year as well. dont get me wrong, I am happy he did this and I hope it makes a difference this year for us. it just would have been nice to have this extra power from him last year.

That's why many players are redshirted, so they can get bigger and stronger and can realize their potential.

You would think he would have wanted to pickup weight with getting hit and nocked around.

Lamar was also running track. So, just gaining weight without adding strength, really isn't an answer. It takes time to get it balanced properly.

I think the extra 25 lbs is what he needed. Having said that, how will this extra 25 lbs effect his speed. I am assuming this is all muscle weight. Does the added muscle weight make him faster or does the extra 25 lbs slow him down.

How will the extra pounds impact him running track?

I put on 25 lbs but my wife wasn't impressed.

He's still very quick. It's hard to compare since I've only seen him without pads this offseason.

I would hope our training staff made sure he focused on adding at least half of that weight to his legs and was doing agility/stretching exercises to help his body adjust to the weight gain. I'd be more worried about his stride since that can make a world of a difference when you have elite level speed like he does. I have a feeling it's probably more around like 18lbs he gained and will end up losing 5 more during two a days and be around 173 but still solid for his size. I'm excited to see him finally play his natural position and hope they utilize his great vision and quickness by running draws to allow him to create plays.
