Quickly glancing at the comments, liked this one,

JPP is going to record 10 sacks or more this year.

Love it.  Would have been nice to have some USF recognition.

Osi Umenyiora vs. Jason Pierre-Paul

Hot off the presses: Former malcontent Osi Umenyiora is honoring his contract.

Fresh out of Giants camp: Last year's No. 15 overall pick Jason Pierre-Paul has run first-team reps in Osi's absence.

Long accepted as common knowledge: Team (NYG) and player (Umenyiora) froth upon sight of each other.

This doesn't scream position battle to you?

The likelihood that Umenyiora is traded remains open, despite failed attempts by his camp to cut a deal. The second someone's knee explodes in meaningless preseason play, phones in East Rutherford will throw themselves off the hook.

While that's a win for Osi, a trade kind of kills the camp battle theatre -- or at least this entry.

But this should still be very much an open competition, especially given Pierre-Paul's preseason debut. Dude made Jordan Gross look like Sasquatch in cement shoes.

And if you think the money -- Osi's due $3.125 million in 2011 -- will trump performance, remember:

Tom Coughlin is a tough dude. He'd probably bench his mother if he felt so inclined.

Tom Coughlin resents the front office. (Peep these shots fired at GM Jerry Reese.) After Reese tight-pocketed away a shot at viability in 2011, I highly doubt Coughlin cares what happens to the team's money.

Tom Coughlin is near out of a job. He doesn't win, win fast, and win often, he'll share company with an estimated 9.2 percent of unemployed Americans.

Those factors make competition open.

Yeah JPP! He will be a full-time starter no later than next season unless they get rid of Osi
