Griffiths to transfer from football program

University of South Florida football coach Skip Holtz said Tuesday that redshirt sophomore Chase Griffiths has decided to transfer from the program.

Griffiths joined the Bulls as a linebacker out of North Florida Christian in Tallahassee. After redshirting in 2009, Griffiths appeared in one game last season. He was moved from linebacker to fullback this spring, but after meeting with Holtz after workouts concluded decided he wanted to continue playing on defense and that his best option would be to get a fresh start at another program.

“I wish him the best of luck,†Holtz said. “It was a very positive meeting. I mean, there were smiles on our face, he said coach, I hate that I’m leaving, it’s coming around, it’s coming together, I’m excited what this team is going to do. ... But his heart just wasn’t in the (position switch), which I can totally understand. He’s always played the linebacker position, he’s never played offense. He’s a great young man and I certainly wish him the best.â€

Griffiths is the second scholarship player to leave the team this spring. Receiver T.J. Knowles also is transferring.

He wasn't on the two deep at end of spring. Walk-on Chris Breit was ahead of him.

Not good when a walk on beats out a second year guy. But that's good if the walk ons they are getting now have more talent than some of the older guys.

He wasn't a second-year fullback. He has been a fullback for like two months.

His brother looks like a stud and has some solid offers. He visited USF recently, wonder how this will play into it all.
