Good Article by Brian Bennet on the OL - http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/40378/usf-reshaping-offensive-line-this-spring

Obviously making it a recruiting priority - "Our depth is not very good, truthfully," Shankweiler said. "We signed five high school linemen this year, which is more than most people do. We just don't have any. Our numbers were down when we got here, for whatever reason, and it takes two years to get caught back up."

I know the blitzes had a lot to do with this but the OL was probably my biggest diapointment from Sat's game. But it's still early in the offseason to get these guys working better as a single unit.

no they don't.

with red shirting, over 1/4 of your scholarships would be o-linemen if that were the case.

Coaching rule of thumb is usually a good number is 15 OL on scholarship on a D1 team. Coaches would also rather have it staggered where no more than 3 are graduating each year if possible.  Smazza's numbers are absurd.

he probably thinks it's normal because USC and all the SEC programs  sign 30 guys a year.

when you don't over sign, 5 is unusually high.

I am sure they look at the juco kids, but that is the heavily recruited guys, plus I would think they are looking at the future where they can get frosh in now and build them into what they want, not try to change a guy with 2 years left at most.

USF always looking to the future, never playing for today it seems.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
