Pitt's loss to Utah was a sign... a weekend that saw four Big East teams lose:

Utah 27 - Pitt 24

Michigan 30 - U Conn 10

Kentucky 23 - L'ville 16

Fresno State 28 - Cincy 14

the weekend ended with Fresno man-handling Cincy for most of the second half.

Sure, Big East teams playing patsies won - but WVU and Rutgers also started slowly and had their starters in the game well into the 4th quarter:

South Florida 59 - Stony Brook 14

West Virginia 31 - Coastal Carolina 0  (only 10-0 at halftime)

Rutgers 31 - Norfolk State 0  (only 6-0 at halftime)

Syracuse 29 - Akron 3  (was 17-3 at halftime)

We will be lucky to have 1 team in the top 25 in either poll this week - either Pitt or WVU hangs in at 23 - 25.

all the easier to win it.

I could care less how our conference does. I'm a Bulls fan.

with so many new starters at QB in this league, it doesn't really surprise me.

WVU will move up and easily be in the Top 25... Oregon State, North Carolina, and Pitt all ahead of them lost.  Utah will jump over the Mountaineers in the AP.  So I would say WVU will be #23 or #22 this week.

You do realize that if the Big East is strong in OOC games, and USF does well in conference games, it makes USF look that much better?

Heck, if all we cared about was USF winning, we should push to go back to C-USA!

No, the Big East needs to do better than they did this week... especially against BCS-caliber opponents.

I am shocked at the turnout from week one for the Big East.  I think conference play is going to be a lot more difficult this year then in the past for some teams.

The funny thought that came to my mind this weekend is this: What if USF pummels Stony Brook (the way we were supposed to) and beats UF-- who looked quite vulnerable yesterday afternoon?

It would be like the Leavitt days all over again because we would move into the polls and instantly become the frontrunner to win a weak Big East.  But, could Holtz rise to the challenge, win conference games, and not taper off like the last guy?

At this point, it's still kinda speculation.  But wouldn't it be quite satisfying in the face of all the critics who kept insisting "UF is too strong," "Pitt and UConn are frontrunners to win the Big East," and "USF is too inexperienced to compete this year."

The two big losses are pitt and cinci.  both of those teams are mwc teams.  I thought uconn had a shot, but it looks like rich rod finally has something going in ann arbor.
