The Big East will not get a BCS AQ if we lose 3 teams.  We can only hope things get shook up majorly and we land in another AQ conference.

I really wish you youngun's would stop with the new acronyms.  ;D I know that we're in a BCS conference, now I've finally figured out that we're in an AQ automatic qualifier conference. It's been 20 years since I was in the USAF, so I'm out of practice with acronyms. ;D

We absolutely must have a big year this year to be attractive in the event of conference realignments.

agreed

this year or next year is almost a must win (conference) for usf.

Has there been any talk of possibly adding USF to the Big Ten? We are a member of the AAU, aren't we? Our academics may not be there YET, but being affiliated with universities such as though in the Big Ten would certainly elevate our academics as well. It would give the Big Ten a large southern market where a lot of their transplants reside. Travel expenses for the olympic sports may be somewhat prohibitive, but why not us? We shocked the world once before by making our way into the Big East.

This makes absolutely no sense what so ever. We are no where near big 10 territory. The Big 10 would not look to Florida for expansion. Pull your head out of your ass.

My bad, it was the Carnegie distinction that I was thinking about. I think as these new conferences emerge geographic proximity is going to become less and less of a determining factor. I know we have no history or ties to the Big Ten, but if they are going to have 16 members, why not have one in Florida? Didn't say it was likely, but we can dream, can't we?

If geographic proximity to the rest of the big 10 teams is not a factor then why would Florida or USC not be in the discussion? Why are the only teams you hear rumored to be on the Big 10s wish list Norte Dame, Pitt, Cuse, Mizzou, Rutgers, Nebraska, Kansas? Because geographic proximity is a huge factor when going after new members to a conference. Us going to the big 10 makes about as much sense as Oregon going to the ACC. There are no natural rivalries, athletic departments would have to spend ridiculous amounts of money to have teams travel, fans wouldn't travel for away games, etc. We have absolutely no appealing traits to the Big 10. We will never be a part of the Big 10 let alone be mentioned in rumors with the Big 10. So drink a nice tall glass of reality and come back to earth. If we go anywhere it will be to the ACC.
