"Remember, a majority of their teams did not become routinely good until spurrier made their football elite. This apparently the model we will have to follow to bring all of our athletics to such a level. There is a lot of pressure on our football team."

100% agree. Their football wasn't all that good until the Ol' Ball Coach showed up. I think we're on the verge of a similiar growth spurt with our two CSH's!

UF never won a conference championship until 1990, Spurrier.

What set them apart is their fan support.

But most Gator fans don't know this; they think they've been a great football program for decades and decades.  90 years to win the first national title and another 10 years till the second.

I'm sure we've beaten them in Soccer quite a bit...and definitely womens basketball.

UF doesn't have mens soccer so it would have to be woman's and i'm pretty sure their woman's program is always good. don't know how far back that dates though.

Interesting, why don't they have a mens team?

We own them in sailing. Always have, always will.

Beat me to it.  To be fair we have a campus on the bay... they have a pond they call a "lake".

Women's sailing at UF is a club sport.  No scholarships for players, no coaches on salary.

In the early 80's we won two FL 4 basketball tournaments (UF, FSU, JU) Lee Rose coached us and Norm Sloan coached UF. The tournament was ended after only two years. We used to have a pennant in the dome which was for some reason taken down.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
